About This Item

London: The Mitre Press, 1932. A reference work featuring lengthy entries for approximately 1,500 women "who are leaders of Society, or who are pre-eminent in any of the Arts, Commerce, Religion, Administration, etc.; women who are the helpful wives or motehrs of captains of industry, Senators, leading professional men and educators. In short, Principal Women." As stated in the preface, "each lady represented in this volume was carefully selected for her eminent sutability to be termed a principal woman of her country, or was included ex-officio, or on the strong and impartial recommendation of persons and organisations of the greatest repute." Data gathering for a second volume was reportedly underway when this volume was published, but we find no evidence that it was ever published. Mitre was a London-based publisher of genealogical (and other) content and published "The Genealogical Quarterly."

Limp boards, blue cloth, gilt lettering to front board, 130 p.
