About This Item
London: Samuel Leigh, 1822. First Edition. 12mo, pp. xxxii, 240, 10. Bound in old boards, paper label, uncut, joints broken (covers separate), some minor foxing. A nice clean copy. Thimm 244. Rolando was a fencing master. Forsyth was one of his students who got his own instruction from him "during a long residence in France." Forsyth compares fencing schools in France with facilities in England, where "fencing has been comparatively neglected, and that spirit of liberality which characterises foreign masters has not yet found its way into this country, where fencing-masters are comparatively few in number.
