Paris: Emile Testard, 1895. Limited edition. Hardcover. Very good condition. Illustrated with attractive aquatints by Georges Jeanniot. The pictorial title page printed in color. Art binding by Charles Meunier (1866 - 1948) who helped renew the art of fine binding, and founded a small press, a review and a bibliophile society (Societe des Amis du Livre Moderne). Limited edition, number 181 of 300 copies, Librairie de l'Edition Nationale.

Signed Meunier fine binding decorated with bats, flowers and geometric designs. Meunier (1865-1940) was noted for his original approach to binding and his great output. His binding techniques include inlay, onlay, paint, gilding, marbling, tooling, and chiseled leather. A fine example of his work is owned by the Grolier Club.

Tall 8vo, 257pp, b&w frontispiece, b&w ills throughout, plus list of illustrations [1], a colophon, "Collection des Dix", consisting of sample pages, sample engraved illustrations; and an advertising prospectus printed on the back page. Original paper wrappers bound in; the published soft paper spine is tipped in at the rear. Elaborate marbled endpapers. Three quarters brown leather with marbled boards. A little rubbed, otherwise very good condition.
