Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1860. Author's Edition. Very good in purple, pebbled, blind stamped cloth covered boards with faded copper colored text stamping on the spine which is slightly faded. A small octavo of 7 5/8 by 4 7/8 inches with yellow end sheets. The text block is completely foxed around the margins of each page 375 pages including an appendices and text. The two, fold-out maps are located at the end of the text are in excellent condition. The text is illustrated with an engraved frontispiece with 14 plates and one engraving within the text (one plate is missing) plus three maps of four called for and the facsimile of the Record found of the Franklin Expedition.

Gilt & black lettering & decoration on brown covers in hand-made brown paper wrappers - which had kept this volume in near fine condition! 12mo, 375 pages. Ex- library copy - This is Volume No.57 of the West Bath (Maine) Library Association, with their label on the inside of the back cover. The unusual library label says: "N. B. This book must not be lent out of the subscribers family, and if injured, all damage must be paid to the librarian. No volume can be kept over four weeks ; two weeks additional time will be allowed by having it renewed. A fine of two cents per day will be charged for a book kept over this time. A violation of these rules will result in a loss of membership.". Other than the brown paper wrapper pasted on the inside of the covers, spine pean, and the library bookplate, this is a near fine copy.

His expedition, which was privately sponsored by Lady Jane Franklin, lasted from July 1857 to September 1859.
