Description:
London: Henry G. Bohn, 1861 Book. Poor. Disbound. xxi, [1], 456 pages + 12 plates, complete as listed. In the original cloth binding, but this is very stained, faded and worn. Inner hinges are split and the binding is only just holding on. Pages are separating and many coming loose and consequently are worn at the edges. Pages 289/290 and 304/305 are completely detached as is the plate facing page 208. The loose plate is chipped and torn at the edges. Torn remains of a book seller's label to the front pastedown. Damage and tears to the rear pastedown also. Ink inscription to the front free end paper - Thomas Digby Raikes, for good conduct, Christmas 1861, Manor House Finchley. Pages 13/14 torn into text with no loss. Pages 191/192 torn with loss to the margin, the tear affecting the text. Other small tears and damage to page edges throughout. Spotting to pages, heavy in places. Overall in poor condition..
