In original dark red hardback halfbound leather binding, Cover torn along the length of the backstrip, but only just still intact by a small amount of binding at the top. Backstrip and covers very scuffed, with some of the leather torn off from the corners of the covers. Binding split in the middle of the book, but the two halves are still attached. Pageblock in poor condition, with a liquid stain extending from the bottom to halfway up on the majority of pages. Otherwise, there are no other markings or annotations in the text.This book has hardback covers. Ex-library, With usual stamps and markings, In poor condition, suitable as a reading copy. London: Boussod, Valadon & co, 1897. First edition (softcover). 4to (32cm by 25cm), title, ii, 200pp. Colour frontispiece, 8 plates, 32 text illustrations. Original binding of printed grey card wrappers, printed red paper dustwrapper. Light chafing to the extremities of the covers, some scattered foxing; overall, the book is in good plus condition. The dustwrapper is in tatty condition (stained, chipped and torn). It is unusual to find a copy in the original soft covers - most copies of this book were rebound in hard covers.
