London: William Smith, 1847.. 4to. Original green cloth, spine and front cover designed in gilt. Yellow coated end papers. Sixty hand-coloured lithographic plates, most with the tissue guards intact. The binding is rough, with old repairs to the outer front hinge, as well as the inner hinges; tape residue on the inner front hinge, back cover dampstruck. Plates are clean and attractive, occasional very light foxing, slight wear to the outer margin of the final plate. An early printing; the first edition was dated 1846. This copy has the imprint of William Smith, but at the base of the spine has "Wm. S. Orr & Co"

London: James Nelson & Co., 1859.. Third edition, 4to, xvi, 311, (1) pp. 60 hand coloured plates. Original gilt titled green cloth, mostly sunned to brown, recased with new endpapers retaining the original backstrip, remains of a small numbered label to the foot of the upper cover. A very good sound copy.

Text, mostly unopened, is a little aged but except for some light spots of foxing here and there the plates are clean; contemporary gift inscription on the half-title page. Near Fine in a handsome binding. Quarto (9" x 12") in 1/2 modern dark green morocco leather and older marbled boards with gilt rules, lettering and decorations. Illustrated with 60 hand-colored lithographs with tissue guards. The first two plates are bound out of order.

Some light foxing to the plates, small spots of tape offsetting on front endpaper where the cover of a 1940 Red Cross Sale Catalogue was attached, and is now laid in, boards and corners worn, but still a sound about very good copy.
