All about the enchanting dreams of a darling 2 year old boy. Recased with matching blue cloth spine and corners, new yellow endpapers, white boards darkened to grey, some inner joints neatly repaired with paper strips, a crease to inner margin of 1 text page strengthened with linen binder's tape, this text page reinserted the wrong way round, 2 pages slightly worn at 1 edge with tiny nicks. Contents otherwise nice, no inscriptions. A good plus tight copy. A good copy of the 1st edition with 12 full-page colour illustrations by Mrs Ames. Mary Frances Ames (1860-1914) was an author and illustrator who often worked with her husband, producing works for both adults and children. She was successful - her 'ABC for Baby Patriots' was much praised by Queen Victoria - and her combination of writing and illustrating drew comparisons with Hilaire Belloc and Edward Lear. 'Watty: A White Puppy' is very scarce. This copy is in its original binding with cloth spine and paper-covered boards. The front board has a central picture of Watty with 3 piglets. The spine is quite worn with a small hole in the cloth and the boards are warped. The white areas of the boards are grubby, with scuffing and paper loss around the corners and edges. The contents are held in the binding by stitching which we have had to open because the book was originally bound with the pages out of order. A few finger marks present. Illustrations clean and bright.
