This is the twelfth edition of the work, in original publisher's red cloth binding and original unclipped dust wrapper. This work was first published in May 1926. This work was written by Herman Cyril McNeile, a British soldier and author who often drew on his personal experiences in the trenches during the First World War. During the war, McNeile had many short stories published in the Daily Mail, and then continued writing fiction post-war, often under the pseudonym Sapper. He is most well-known for his detective series of Bulldog Drummond. This particular work features 'Shorty Bill', a character who appears in McNeiles previous works 'No Mans Land' and 'The Human Touch'.
