Includes articles on art, coins, stamps, literature, silver, engravings, gems, musical instruments, pottery and interesting anecdotes on Leather bound volume with gilt title to the spine, marble front and end papers and many plates and illustrations. Please note this is Volume 1 only. In a half calf binding with cloth covered boards. There is some wear to the extremities including scratches to the leather and bumping to the corners. The binding is generally tight and firm with both covers and all pages securely attached. There are some pencil notations on a few pages. There is a tear to the cardboard page on which one of the plates is mounted but it does not affect the plate. One of the tissue papers protecting a plate is slightly creased. Very Good

With tissue guards. The Connoisseur is a British antiquarian magazine founded in 1901 and published nine times a year. Bound in half-leather with gilt lettering, decoration, and cloth-covered boards. There is only slight wear to the extremities, with just slight bumping and rubbing. The binding is tight and firm. The first 34 consecutive numbers of this collector's magazine which was massively influential on the evolution of taste in Britain in the Edwardian years. All are hardcover, stoutly bound in the original unworn brick red cloth boards, sparely and elegantly decorated in embossed gilt on the edges and spine as designed by Byam Shaw. The boards and spines are in no way faded or sunned. The volumes are all unmarked. All the protective tissues are in fine condition. It is difficult to imagine a finer set. It is, however, singularly heavy and shipping either within or outside the UK would have to be negotiated.

Featuring numerous plates - some coloured, some tipped in, some folding and some with captioned guards - and illustrations in the text. The original front paper wraps have been bound into the rear of Volumes XXIII-XXVIII, one with 'Pleasaunce' in pencil.
