This book has in excess of 300 illustration and over half of these are in colour. Many of the pieces illustrated are extremely rare and have not been seen in print before. Among these are examples form the vast but little known Gutman collection in the United States, to which country large quantities of lustreware were exported in the nineteenth century. The author is one of the foremost authorities on lustreware. The book covers the beginnings of lustreware in 1805 through its heyday in the first half of that century, with later lustreware touched upon. the techniques of lustring are described in detail and there is a comprehensive coverage of the companies and personalities involved in its manufacture. Book in near fine condition. Dust jacket very good and unclipped. Some very slight edge wear and some very slight soiling.

Examples of work by 30 Danish women artists together with a related piece of text. Much of the work is wood-engaving, woodcut or lino-cut. Text in Danish. Loosely inserted correspondence indicates that this copy had been given to Patricia Jaffe (art historian, academic and wood-engraver). Book in good condition. Slight soiling and some light creasing to edges and corners of covers. Gift inscription to front free end paper. Internally clean.

Introduction by Keith Harwood who also selected the texts to accompany the engravings Book in fine condition and with an unread feel. Some marking to front and rear hinges which appears to be due to an over-application of adhesive during binding.

Dark red boards with elaborate gilt illustration to upper boards and gilt titles to spines. No jackets. Thausig's extensive and scholarly work on Durer has probably only been surpassed in breadth and scope by that of Erwin Panofski. It is still a very useful source for any student of Durer and the art of his time. Both volumes in good condition but have obviously been much used. Boards generally a little rubbed and soiled. Volume I lower board is the most rubbed and soiled. Both upper boards and their gilt decoration are still quite bright. Corners all a little bumped. Spines somewhat faded with wear and fraying at extremities. Text block edges a little dust soiled. Red cloth boards with gilt monograms to upper board and gilt titles to spine. Dust jacket and slipcase. Fedja Anzelewsky has produced an authoritative study of the paintings of Durer. The benefit of this detailed study is that it focuses entirely on the details of the paintings and therefore separates this body of work from Durer's many other graphic activities. This is a serious and scholarly work and the text is in German. Book in near fine condition. Dust jacket in good condition and unclipped. A little edge wear and some minor creasing. Spine slightly discoloured. Slipcase in fair condition - structurally sound but a little rubbed and soiled. This is an extremely heavy book but no additional shipping costs to UK post codes.

The colophon states that the end-papers were reproduced from a design lent by Armin Renker of Zekall, Duren, Germany and the binding by Brandt & Zoon of Amsterdam. As the endpapers are plain white, rather than having a design, and the bookbinder's ticket indicates a different binder from that mentioned in the colophon, together with this being an unnumbered copy, it seems possible - perhaps even likely - that this book was made up from unbound sheets remaining from the original print run and therefore might be a copy additional to the 600 produced for the subscribers. Pages slightly tanned - most noticeable on the end papers. This is described as a 'New and Cheaper Edition'. The first edition was 1875. This edition is undated. Mrs Bury Palliser (1805 - 1875) also wrote about lace making. This little pocket book (approx 4.5' by 6.5") offers a guide to china marks and is described in its preface as: 'A portable book of marks and mongrams is a necessary complement to the extensive ceramic works of the present day. In this little volume, care has been taken not to assign a locality to marks except upon unquestionable authority. It is better to raise doubt than to sow error. The one time and research may dispel; the other it is impossible to eradicate when once allowed to take root."
