About Bennor Books
I specialise in used books covering all aspects of Northumberland, North East England and the Scottish Borders and the associated fields of railways and mining. I also hold books on prehistoric art and titles on field sports in the 19th and 20th centuries. As I sell on commission, I often have a wide range of uncommon titles on other subjects.
With regret, I can no longer accept orders from Germany.

Interview with Mark Benjamin of Bennor Books
- When did you get started in bookselling?
- Before retiring from a career in librarianship I had been investigating the possibility of getting better prices for our discards than the flat £1 per book we traditionally charged. Having taken early retirement in 2010, I entered into a partnership with my former employer to sell selected titles on their behalf. Other clients followed.
- What drew you to bookselling?
- It seemed a perfect fit when I was looking for something to do after retirement, capitalising on my knowledge both of books and local history.
- Did you have any mentors in becoming a bookseller?
- Not really, although I have found other booksellers - on the whole - very supportive.
- What are your specialties as a dealer?
- Building on my expertise gathered as local studies librarian in Northumberland, I specialise in the history of North East England and the Scottish borders, along with the related subjects of railways and mining.
- What's the most amazing book you've ever sold?
- The most surprisingly profitable sale was of a book that so easily could have gone into the bargain box. A single-fold booklet on cross-stitch banners sold to a lady in Shreveport, Louisiana, for £60
- What is your favorite part of being a bookseller?
- Knowing that I've managed to match a book to someone who's been searching for it
- Do you have an open storefront or have you in the past?
- No - the nearest I get is attendance at book and antique fairs across North East England
- What is your favorite bookshop (other than your own)?
- Barter Books in Alnwick is a wonderful place to visit - but I must put in a mention for Cogito's, our local independent bookshop in Hexham
- What do you personally like to read? Collect?
- I'm a great crime and historical fiction fan - with occasional ventures into fantasy!
