Has "Rationale of the Translation" note on the use of modern idiom. 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", stapled in white card wraps which are age-toned and foxed along the fold, no apparent shelf wear, top edge age-toned, old price in pencil on ffep, publisher's name and address stamped on inside back cover, pages unmarked. Reading these translations will likely require a magnifying glass; evidently a miscalculation of trim settings shrank the type to no larger than 8-point.

The University of Chicago Press, 1960. 2nd Edition . Soft cover. Good. 82 pages. Second edition enlarged and revised (first published 1955), 1960; this is the ninth printing, 1970. English translations from 23 poets, along with miscellareous inscriptions and drinking songs. Lattimore's two prefaces include list of birthplaces of the poets; concordance matches his numbering with the numbering in various editions of the Greek. Two-page map. Large mass-market paperback (5-1/4" x 8"), wraps stained by foxing spots, foxing to top edge, crease to front top corner, other light shelf wear, old price sticker on front cover and another on back. Mark observed in margin of one page, three lines of page-reference notes written on inside back cover.

The persons included are Lycurgus, Solon, Pericles, Alcibiades, Cicero, and Alexander the Great. Mass-market paperback with soil and wear to wraps, from which an outer glassine layer is peeling, top edge dust-soiled, pages brown with age, crack along front of spine but backstrip firmly attached. Copley, Professor Emeritus of Latin at the University of Michigan, translated De Rerum Natura from the Latin hexameter of Lucretius into "a somewhat loosened form" of iambic pentameter (as he had done with Virgil's Aeneid), and into "contemporary English", the back cover blurb states.
