This adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was done by Boris Zakhoder (1918–2000), a prominent poet, translator, and children's writer. Zakhoder's version was first published in the magazine Pioneer in 1971–1972 (# 12, 1-3) and was accompanied by an introduction where he expressed his desire to rename the book something more creative than Alice in Wonderland. He suggested names such as Aliska in Imagination, Aliska in Surprisedland, Aliska in Chepukhania or Aliska in Raschudesiya, but ultimately succumbed to the established literary tradition. Zakhoder also confessed that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was his favorite book, which he had re-read in the original language for 25 years before translating it into Russian. The translator, Aleksandr Olenich-Gnenenko (1893–1963), a journalist and poet, lived in Omsk and then in Rostov-on-Don. His translations of Edgar Allan Poe's verses are still highly valued. Cover design and illustrations were prepared by Anatoliy Mosin (1924-1979), a Rostov artist, caricaturist and poster artist.

This collection comprises six stories from the original edition "Free, and Other Stories" (1918): "A Story of Stories," "McEwen of the Shining Slave Makers," "The Second Choice," "Old Rogaum and His Theresa," "When the Old Century Was New," and "Married."The stories were translated by William Ravinskii (Rovinskii; 1902-1971) and his wife Tatiana (1902-after 1981). In November of the 1927, the American writer visited the USSR to partake in the November festivities commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution. During his visit, Dreiser held a special meeting with an executive from the State Publishing House (GIZ), during which he received one thousand US dollars for two books already published by GIZ. The real compiler of the anthology was political and literary historian Prince Dmitry Svyatopolk-Mirsky (1890-1939), who was arrested on 3rd June 1937 and died in prison. He brought together a splendid team of translators and called into play all the knowledge he had accumulated about English poetry. Mirsky's biographer G.S. Smith wrote: 'The translators Mirsky used in his anthology were all based in Leningrad, and he set up the project during a visit there in September 1935. The finished anthology was in the process of publication when Mirsky was arrested; in order to save the enterprise, his name was completely removed from the book and replaced by that of M. The first Russian translation of Wilde's aphorisms was published in 1905, the same year as the original edition. It was prepared by Ekaterina Andreeva, the second wife of the symbolist poet Konstantin Balmont. In 1908, Wilde's aphorisms were published in the magazine Novyi zhurnal literatury, iskusstva i nauki (New Journal of Literature, Art, and Science; #1–4). The following year, they were included in Wilde's Collection of Works (vol. 7). Additionally, another translation of the aphorisms was issued in the magazine Novoe slovo (New Word).
This translation was made by a military officer and duke, Dmitriy Viazemskii (1884–1917), who was also a vowel of the St. Petersburg City Duma. This was likely Viazemskii's only experience with translation. Unfortunately, he met a tragic end when he was killed by a stray bullet during the February Revolution.

The Little White Bird (1902) in Russian was first published in magazine Letopis' (Chronicle) in 1917 and the following year as a book. J.M. Barrie's famous Peter Pan figure was introduced to Russian readers in this translation. It was prepared by writer, prominent translator and literary critic Avgusta Damanskaya (1877-1959). She had a negative attitude to the Russian Revolution, emigrated in 1920 and settled down in Paris. However, émigré life was marked by poverty and uncertainty. In her letter to Maxim Gorky, the notable Soviet writer and founder of the World Literature (Vsemirnaya literatura) publishing house, she asked to send some of the money for translations that've been published in the USSR. Ukrainian poet Andrey Malyshko (1912-1970) penned these verses after his visit to the USA and Canada in 1950, a time when the World War II alliance between Russia and the USA had become a distant memory. The full-blown Cold War dominated the political landscape, and there were no traces of their former friendship evident in the verses.It's worth noting that David Samoylov (1920-1990), one of the most prominent Russian poets of the post-war era, made an early appearance with his translation efforts in this book. He contributed five translated verses for the book.

Liam O'Flaherty (1896–1984), a key figure in the Irish literary renaissance and a founding member of the Irish Communist Party, gained immense popularity in the Soviet Union during the interwar period. Four of his books were translated into Russian in 1927, making him the most widely translated contempo- rary Irish writer in the Soviet Union. O'Flaherty visited the USSR in the spring of 1931 and wrote about his experiences in I Went to Russia, a book that combines both humorous and poignant observations. Perhaps this is why O'Flaherty's last Russian book was published in 1931.

The first Russian translation of T.S. Stribling (1881-1965), an American writer and Pulitzer Prize laureate (1933), was published in 1926. This was followed by four more books, all published by 1929. The subsequent Russian translation appeared only in 1948 and marked the final Russian book by Stribling.The novel "Bright Metal" was translated by Mark Volosov (1895-1941). Volosov was captured during the Great War and managed to escape to the US. Upon his return in 1923, he pursued a career in translation. Notably, he translated works by authors such as Theodore Dreiser, Michael Gold, and Erskine Caldwell. This first and only Russian edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne's collected works was interrupted in the second volume. These novels were translated and issued by Iosif Maevskiy (1874-1937), who lived in the US in the early 1900s and communicated with Jack London. He returned to Russia in 1910 and established the publishing house Athenaeum (later Knigoizdatel'stvo I.A. Maevskogo), where the first Russian Jack London's collected works were issued. It's interesting that Nikolay Chernyshevsky, a journalist, novelist, and leading theoretician of Russian nihilism and Narodniks, translated Harte's story Miggls while he was in exile in Siberia. These works swiftly garnered immense popularity among Russian audiences. The translations of his literary contributions, including his collection of works, continued to be published regularly until 1917. The first Russian translation of Wilde's De Profundis appeared in 1905, which was the same year as the original text. It was translated by Ekaterina Andreeva, who happened to be the second spouse of the symbolist poet Konstantin Balmont. A portion of her translation was published in the symbolist magazine Vesy (#3), and it was followed by the release of a separate book. The following year, an anonymous translation was released as the third volume of Wilde's complete works, but it was based on Andreeva's translation, which was edited for the publication.

The Russian translation of The Colonel's Daughter appeared three years after Russian publication of "Death of a Hero". Prince Dmitry Svyatopolk-Mirsky (1890-1939), political and literary historian, supplied a preface for the novel. He returned to the Soviet Union from emigration in London in 1932. Later during Great Purge, he was arrested. His name was banned and removed from the Soviet literature. According to preface Aldington used Anton Chekhov's literary techniques: for example, in the dialogue between the main character Georgina Smithers and Dolly Casement, 'a lesbian'. Finding such character trait in Soviet book is unexpected. For many decades lesbianism and homosexuality were taboo themes for the Soviet people. Rare.First edition of this fairy tale with Mavrina's illustrations was issued in 1955. It was also published in English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Telugu. Tatyana Lebedeva (1900/1902–1996), better known by her mother's surname, which she used as a pseudonym—Mavrina. She studied at VKhUTEMAS under Robert Falk. Mavrina was a member of 'Group 13', an association of graphic artists created in 1929. In the same year, the first children's book with her illustrations was issued. As well as some others Russian avant-garde artists, she illustrated children's books since 1930s because it was the only way to stay away from repressions during the Stalin era. After the WWII, Mavrina created her own unique and easily recognizable style — 'method, combining the traditions of Russian primitivism with the painterly quests of the first decades of the early XXth century'.
