Inscribed by the author on front free endpaper "for Dick Wheeler who by the wizardy of accountancy broke me in as a poet! All good wishes these twenty years after, Peter Russell, Venice 1983".

Virtue, London, [ 1866-1868]. Engraved title vignette portrait and numerous steel engaved plates. Six volumes (or Divisions) 4to (11 1/8 x 8 3/4 inches), original brown blindstamped cloth pictorially blocked in gilt. Backstip of vol.5 rubbed and faded, a few headbands bruised, two plates detached but undamaged. Some slight variation in the tone of the cloth of the bindings. Overall a very good set and very clean internally. Weight 5.5 kg thus extra postage will be requested.

London: Grayson, 1932. 8vo, pp.493, contemporary half black morocco, spine gilt within raised bands, gilts arms on upper cover, prize label on front pastedown. Very good.

London: George Routledge, 1870. Small 8vo (6 1/2 x 4 inches), 154-pages. Contemporary quarter grained brown calf with green letterig piece, all edges marbled. With the half-title. Contemporary ownership inscription on title; very good.

George Routledge, London, c. 1880. Plates. Small 8vo (6 3/4 x 4 1/4 inches), 326-pages. Contemporary half tan calf, spine gilt in compartments with maroon lettering pice, rubbed to extremities. Overall very sound and attractive. Prize card pasted to verso of front free endpaper.

Henry G. Bohn, London, 1844. Title vignette and engravings within the text throughout, 4-pages of facsimile signatures at end. 8vo (8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches), 304-pages. Publisher's full crimson grained calf, wide decorative gilt border to sides enclosing a gilt ornament of three cherubs holding aloft a basket of fruit. Mild rubbing to extremities but overall in very good condition and very clean internally. The lower inner joint is split and at some time taped; the rear free endpaper adhered to last blank which has old repair. 1940's gift inscription on front free endpaper.

Engraved allegorical frontispiece and plates to the first work. 8vo (7 x 4 1/2 inchs), pages: 122:82.. 19th Century full tan calf, sides ruled in gilt, spine floral gilt extra in compartments with letterng piece, all edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles. Slight scuffing to sides, a little fading, but overall a very pretty binding in very good condition. Armorial bookplate, later signature on front fly.

London: Macmillan, 1901. Reprint. Portrait. 8vo (7 1/2 x 5 inches), 736-pages. Full green crushed morocco by Bickers, London. All edges gilt, wide inner gilt dentelles. Spine now sunned to uniform brown. A little foxng to prelims. else very good.

Coloured frontispiece and two plates, many other plates in b&w, head & tail pieces. 4to (10 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches), pages: viii:189, original parchment boards blocked in gilt, top edge gilt, others uncut. Binding spotted and browned, crack to outer upper joint and backstrip lifting (inner joint firm however), headbands chipped, internally very good and clean.

Leaf of MS dedication, 2-page MS preface stating that the manscript had been found in an ancient walnut cabinet at Caversham Hill, then follows 13-pages of MS verse. 8vo (9 1/4 x 6 7/8 inches). stitched but unbound. Very good.

Edinburgh: Printed by Hamilton, Balfour, & Neill, 1757. First edition. 8vo, pp. xlii:289, contemporary full speckled calf, spine gilt , bound without the half-title. Lacking lettering piece, spine gilt dulled, headband chipped, joints cracked but very firm, a number of upper fore-corners of the text leaves turned over, some foxing and browning. With the engraved armorial bookplate of Sir John Eden Bart (1740-1812). Actually a pleasing unsophisticated copy. Wilkie the "Scottish Homer".
