Light edge wear, soft vertical crease, margins sunned, Very Good Awarded the highest premium for oil stoves at the 1878 Paris Exposition, the company's products are "fully endorsed by the insurance and Fire Departments of Chicago."

New York: Baptist & Taylor, Steam Job Printers, no date (ca. 1860 or 61). Promotional broadside employing different fonts & type sizes within an ornamental border, with four illustrations from wood cuts signed Kilburn - Mallory, Boston. Folio (16.5" x 10.25") printed in black ink on thin paper.
Folded once horizontally, slightly toned, trace edge wear, otherwise very good or better.
The illustrations show the Winder, the Circular Plain Knitting Machine, the Circular Ribbed Machine & the Healing & Footing Machine. Prices & brief descriptive text for the equipment are provided. The company's manufacuring facilities were in Franklin, New Hampshire & their offices were at 429 Broadway in New York as indicated in contemporary directories for 1860 & 1861.

Berkeley & Jefferson Counties, Virginia (now West Virginia): not published, 1786 - 1842. Group of ten folio manuscript documents and one partially printed document completed in manuscript involving the real estate transactions of Charles & John Yates in the upper Shenandoah Valley. Approximately 29 pp. in total, all docketed.
Each exhibits expected wear including original folds with associated splits and separations (one document with a small area of archival tissue repair), creasing, tears, small losses (occasionally briefly affecting text), soiling, toning and foxing.
Charles Yates (1728 - 1809) emigrated from England in 1748, first to New York and then, in 1752, to Fredericksburg, Virginia. A prosperous merchant and importer, he was also deeply involved in real estate speculation in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties (now West Virginia). Syracuse, New York: T.H. Appleby MFG. Co., no date (ca. 1890). Chromolithograph trade card on light card stock measuring approximately 5.25 inches by 4 inches, rubber-stamped on the verso, "Leslie A. Appleby, Seedman and Florist, Syracuse, N.Y.," otherwise blank. An applied printed paper label at the bottom left of the front apparently corrects an old address.
Top corners creased, light edge wear including a quarter-inch tear, modest foxing & soiling mostly evident on the verso, otherwise good or better.
Presents a lovely illustration depicting a mare & foal in a corral with a rooster & two chickens sharing the space.

"218" rubber-stamped at upper wrap, lightly tanned, one page with brief notes., otherwise very good. Provides terms of the sale & legal & physical descriptions of the properties offered.

New York: Tilden & company, 1852. First edition. 8vo, 28 & [4] pp, with engraved frontis. Original printed wraps, sewn, with an illustration of distilling equipment on the rear wrap. Romaine; p. 135.
Soiled, foxed & spotted, modest edge wear including a couple of small losses, upper wrap partially separated, previous owner's name in pencil at front wrap, label pasted in at the last page of text apparently correcting an error in the address of a retailer, good or better. Formed in 1847, the company was the family business of Samuel J. Tilden, Governor of New York & 1876 Democratic nominee for president. Their most successful product, known as "Tilden's Extract," was extracted from cannabis indica &, as described on p. 21, "specially recommended for tetanus, hydrophobia, neuralgia, gout, rheumatism, epidemic cholera, , convulsions, hysteria, mental depression, insanity, and uterine hemorrhage." A voluminous directory which, of course, includes copious advertising and lists "business firms in the larger cities. Also hotels and banks over the state."

Quarto (12.25" x 9.25"), 95 pages, profusely illustrated throughout from photographs. Publisher's dark red textured paper over boards lettered in gilt on the spine & upper cover, in pictorial dust jacket.
A fine copy in lightly soiled very good or better dust jacket with a half-inch closed tear at the top edge of the front panel.

New York: New York Biscuit Company, no date (ca. 1890's). Group of five embossed, die-cut lace labels printed on different colored thin paper each measuring approximately 3.5 inches by 6.25 inches.
Lightly toned & soiled mostly evident on the versos, tiny loss & a couple of nicks on one, otherwise very good.
Superbly crafted & quite beautiful, these were intended for use on cookie tins.
The New York Biscuit Company was formed in 1889 by William H. Moore. In 1898 Moore joined forces with Adolphus Green (& others), thereafter being known as The National Biscuit Company. The company continues today as Nabisco Brands/ RJR Nabisco.

The upper wrap incorrectly provides year of publication as 1845, the title page correctly indicates 1846.

Original gilt-lettered green cloth, the upper cover with pictorial device in black depicting the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art of which the author was the founder. Modest fraying at spine extremities, corners bumped & rubbed, lightly soiled, hinges cracked, previous owner's name & date at ffep, otherwise good or better The Cooper Union, which offered free tuition until 2014, was the site of one of Abraham Lincoln's most important speeches in which he spoke against the expansion of slavery into the Western Territories & asserted that the Founding Fathers would agree.

Moderately edgeworn (including a small loss at the base of the spine), lightly soiled, upper cover with light stain in the lower corner diminishing through page 5, staples rusted, otherwise Good.Thomas P. Kelly emigrated from Ireland in 1851. He founded the company, which had branches in Chicago & Hamilton, Ohio, in 1885 and provided "Complete Foundry Outfits, Cranes, Cupolas, Ladles, Etc."

New York: Harper & Brothers, (1956) Revised edition. 8vo, xvi, 612 pp., Later full crushed blue morocco, the spine in 6 compartments seperated by raised bands, lettered and decorated in gilt in all compartments, gilt doublures, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, ribbon marker sewn in, original cloth bound in the back.
Binding slightly sunned, early and late leaves browned in the margins, still near fine . The author was professor and subchairman of the psychology department at the Baruch School of Business.
