This example provides biographies of leading men including Robert McMurray, "well-known capitalist", Collis Potter Huntington, President of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, & several others. First editions, original broadsheet newspapers, single sheets measuring 22 inches by 29 inches folding once vertically forming 4 pages each.
Old folds, tattered, creased, some losses (text mostly unaffected), small rubber stamp in the margins, good or so & still quite useful.
The Washington Evening Star was founded in 1852 by Captain Joseph Borrows Tate. In 1853, Tate sold an interest to William Douglas Wallach who became sole owner in 1855. Thereafter, he shortened the name to the Evening Star and introduced the Sunday edition. The paper was noted for coverage of the Civil War and was long the paper of record for the Nation's Capital. After a run of 128 years, publication ceased in 1981.

Volumes I, II & III display typical library markings including card pockets in two volumes. Volume four is in the original binding & price-clipped dust jacket which is faded at the spine, exhibits modest edge wear, & has a gift inscription at the front pastedown, withal, a useful set of an important treatise.
The author was professor of English & director of the school of journalism at the University of Iowa & thereafter Dean of the University of Missouri. Spine darkened, soiled, upper joint splitting, shallow loss at spne extremities, corners bruised & rubbed through, a worn but historically significant copy.

The second collection of Liebling's articles critical of New York newspapers which were originally published in the NEW YORKER, this copy presented to Hiss & wife exactly one week after his first trial ended in a hung jury. During the course of the trial Liebling formed a warm friendship with the defendant, & thereafter aggressively criticized the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Inscription faintly offsets to title page, otherwise fine in very good dust jacket, lightly browned, foxed & soiled mostly at the spine, with modest edge wear incuding short tears & small losses.
The author was the long-time editor & publisher of The State newspaper.
Cartha "Deke" DeLoach was deputy associate director of the FBI, the third highest ranking position behind only J Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson. No place, no publisher, no date (circa 1927). Quarto (11.75" x 9"), 16 pages. Publisher's stapled paper wraps, page one featuring a manipulated image from a photograph depicting the happy couple with goose. Text in three columns. Not found in OCLC as of 1/19/2024.
Folded once horizontally, browned, brittle, edge wear including short tears without loss, otherwise good or better.
Peaches Browning, nee Frances Belle Heenan, met real estate developer Edward West Browning when she was 15 & he was 51. With the permission of both her parents, the pair married on her 16th birthday. Old folds, toned & foxed, moderately tattered (including creasing, closed tears & tiny losses), stain in the top & bottom margin, small rubber-stamped mark at the lower margin of the front page, otherwise good or better.
Published weekly from 1880 to 1890, this paper merged with the Strasburg News later in 1882 & was renamed The Virginian and News. Features politics, local news, & splendid, often illustrated advertisements.
