Quarto (11" x 9"), 904 & viii pages (continously paginated), with illustrated title page & 4 small illustrations at page 764. Text in three columns.
Binding lightly rubbed, spine faded, occasional minor foxing, otherwise Very Good.
An early volume of this auspicious journal which was published continuously from 1828 to 1921.

New York: The University Society / The Werner Company, (1908). Complete in ten octavo volumes (8.25" x 5.75"), variously paginated, illustrated throughout. Publisher's maroon pebbled roan & marbled paper over boards, the spines elaborately lettered & decorated in gilt. Top edges gilt.
Bindings worn: mostly small losses at spine extremities, volume one with chip affecting lettering, volumes three & four with brief staining toward the base of the spines, edges & corners rubbed, otherwise a good & still quite useful set.
The first 5 volumes comprise Tales, volume 6, Poems, volume 7 through 9, Criticisms, & volume 10, Miscellany.

Gilt dull on 4 volumes, moderate wear at spine extremities & corners, couple of hinges cracked, previous owner's bookplate in all volumes, foxing, certainly Good or better. From the library of Richard Cecil Garlick, Jr who was professor of French at the University of Virginia. Henry Carrington Lancaster, chair of the Romance Languages Department and professor of French at Johns Hopkins, was the world's foremost expert on French dramatic literature of the 16th through 18th centuries. He was also the first non French citizen to be awarded the Legion d'Honneur Three further volumes, extending the exhaustive treatise through 1700 (not offered here). were eventually published.

Quite prolific, Pratt authored about 40 publications, many under the pseudonym, Courtney Melmoth. He is most widely known for the novel Emma Corbett: or the Miseries of Civil War, (1780) & Sympathy, a poem published in 1788.
