Baltimore: Johns Hopkins Press, 1929 - 1936 First editions. Six tall octavo volumes, variously paginated. Publisher's gilt-lettered blue cloth
Gilt dull on 4 volumes, moderate wear at spine extremities & corners, couple of hinges cracked, previous owner's bookplate in all volumes, foxing, certainly Good or better.
From the library of Richard Cecil Garlick, Jr who was professor of French at the University of Virginia. Henry Carrington Lancaster, chair of the Romance Languages Department and professor of French at Johns Hopkins, was the world's foremost expert on French dramatic literature of the 16th through 18th centuries. He was also the first non French citizen to be awarded the Legion d'Honneur Three further volumes, extending the exhaustive treatise through 1700 (not offered here). were eventually published.
