After dancing in San Francisco clubs as a teenager, she was signed by RKO in 1937 and appeared in small parts. She then moved to Columbia where she remained until 1946. She then signed with MGM and her career blossomed. She appeared in major MGM musicals, including Easter Parade, On The Town and Kiss Me Kate.
