About This Item
Aromas, California: Cayucos Books, 1973. First Trade Edition. Boards. Very Good Plus/Fine. (xxix) 200 (1) pages. SIGNED/INSCRIBED by William Everson in ink to the late bookseller and publisher Robert Hawley, on the front free endpaper, "To Bob Hawley / as fine a friend as they come! / Bill Everson / June 19, 1974". Preface, Introduction, Afterword and Notes by William Everson. White dust jacket. Black boards. 6 1/2" x 9 1/2". Photocopy of Robert Hawley's obituary laid in. A collection of published and unpublished Jeffers' poems that, according to Everson, trace Jeffers' "interval that changed him from an accomplished but stilted poet in Californians (1916) to a decisive and transcendent one in Tamar (1924)."
Robert (Bob) Hawley (1929 - 2017) was a beloved Bay Area bookseller (Ross Valley Book Company) and publisher under the Oyez imprint, which published several of poet William Everson's works. Everson's inscription, written in ballpoint pen ink, in an informal style (different than the calligraphic style employed by Everson in ordinary book signings), coupled with the text of the inscription, make it clear that Everson and Hawley enjoyed a special relationship. Re-backed with cloth and original spine titling laid down. Overall, a Very Good Plus copy in a Fine dust jacket, now in a custom clear mylar protective sleeve. ALWAYS FREE SHIPPING of books via media mail to any United States address.
