Description:
The date on the title page indicates this to be a first edition. Additional copyright dates are given relative to the various works excerpted herein. This is a collection of selected passages from other Wolfe works. An image of the first page of the table of contents can be found in photo #5, the full table runs over five pages. There are a total of 71 excerpts from just four works, with the lion's share coming from Of Time and the River and Look Homeward, Angel. The book shows wear at the corners and edges, while the dust jacket shows wear just about everywhere. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with a former owner's name inside the front cover. Many small illustrations were provided by Edward Shenton. This appears to be a rather rare book.

Description:
A set of four tiny leather-bound books from early in the 20th century. These are each 8 x 10 centimeters. The Kipling and De Maupassant books were bound with endpapers and have held up well over the years. The other two had just the bare leather against the pages, which resulted in the binding failing and the outer pages getting discolored and brittle. You can see this in the photos. Based on the quality of the leather and the binding technique, I would say the Coleridge and Tennyson works are older, but there are no dates on any. Owner's names inside the cover of the Kipling and De Maupassant books, with the latter having the date of 1919 written therein. It is likely the others are of that age or older.

Description:
A seven-volume set of the works of Balzac. Green fabric covered boards show some wear at the corners and edges. Titles in gilt on brown box glued to the spines, with some chipping. The pages are clean and unmarked. As is often the case in books of this era, splits have occurred where the glued portions meet the sewn. Six of these volumes have developed a split in the front, near the title pages, to varying degrees. The one that has not split in front (Volume V), is the only volume to have developed a mild split in the rear. Photo #3 shows a typical split of this nature. The photos also show all seven title pages. The volumes contain from one to six works each. This is a rare complete collection of the Century Company edition. This set will ship at about ten pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price. This set is not available for international shipping without special arrangements.

Description:
Stated first edition. Paper covers with purple cloth over the spine. Gilt decoration on the cover and gilt print on the spine. Little wear to the cover other than a bit of edgewear at the lower edge of the spine. The pages appear to be clean, tight and unmarked, and the binding is solid. Looks as if a name has been blacked out on the front free endpaper. The dust jacket shows more wear, with crimps and tears at the edges and corners (most significant at the spine) and a piece missing at the lower left rear corner (see photo #3). An anthology of dozens of works of fiction, nonfiction and poetry about Christmas. A few author's names I happen to recognize include John Milton, Dorothy L. Sayers, William Shakespeare, B. J. Shute, Mark Twain, Moss Hart, G. K. Chesterton, Pearl Buck, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Ruth Sawyer. And many more. A rare book.

Description:
No dust jacket. Published during the last year of the Civil War, this was before the public knew that Currer Bell was actually Charlotte Brontë. The pages are generally clean and tight although one page has torn free of the stitching. The cover is worn and soiled, and the fabric over the spine has come loose along the front edge. I am selling this one "as is" because I haven't the ability to effect repairs. If you do, then you will have a very rare book once you have completed the task. There are no markings within the book. (I have been unable to actually find a 1864 edition on the market and very few others with Currer Bell as the author.)

Description:
A ten-volume set of the works of Rudyard Kipling. Not ALL the works, by any means, but a nice representative sample. This is identified as the de Luxe Edition and is part of a limited, numbered set published about 1910 for sale in America. This is #590 of 1,000 (see photo #10). The books show wear at many corners and the top and bottom of the spine, to varying degrees. Gilt top page edges. Books of this age often develop hinge splits where the glued portions meet the stitched body. While these can occur in the front or rear, the front is more common, due to the way people normally hold books. Only three of these volumes have developed a mild split, all in front, near the title page. In a few volumes some of the lower edges of some pages have not been separated (see photo #12). The titles are as follows:
The Light That Failed; 2. The Phantom Rickshaw; 3. Plain Tales from the Hills; 4. Backroom Ballads and Other Verses; 5. Soldiers Three; 6. Under the Deodars; 7. Mine Own People; 8. The Story of the… Read More

Description:
Stated first edition. A collection of excerpts from various works of Evelyn Waugh, with a brief biography. Book is in rather good condition with little visible wear, other than mentioned below. The dust jacket has collected a number of tears and wrinkles over the years. The one noticeable flaw is on the back cover where it was once exposed to a bit of water. The water stain runs down the length of the cover and some color was transferred onto the inside of the dust jacket. There is no indication that the water managed to get inside of that back cover. This is a rare book.
