First edition; 4 x 5 1/4; pp. [14]; illustrated wraps; Minor wear to edges and wraps; near fine condition.An advertisement for Hanford's Balsam of Myrrh in the form of an abc book with each page featuring two letters, an illustration, and short rhymes touting the magical properties of the product, for example: "W is for Wound or Open Sore, That you have tried to heal before; Seek Hanford's Balsam where for sale, Then use after others fail." Hanford's Balsam was introduced in 1846 as a cure-all for external injuries on horses, livestock, and humans.

First edition; 5 x 7; pp. 64 including text to first and last page; stiff chromolithographed wraps bearing the trademark Indian Head to front cover; some age-toning and dust-dulling to covers; small indented dots and scratches to margins; illustrated with b & w drawings; pages mostly clean with a few small spots to edges; wraps a bit weak along staples; good to very good.Apart from numerous recipes using Calumet Baking Powder, the booklet also contains household hints on cleaning, preserving, and overall health, as well as testimonials and a side-by-side comparison Calumet Baking Powder and other brands. Twelve die-cuts, seven different designs in all; illustrated card stock; 4 1/2" in diameter; circular, gilt frame; die-cut ladies' figures in various outfits and hats; tabs at the bottom and on verso, to be folded in such a way that the figures would stay up (none folded); very minor wear to a few; near fine or better condition.A fabulous collection of, presumably, advertising pieces (although similar ones by the same company had been printed on verso to be used as bridge tally cards), they all showcased the splendor of Art Deco printing of the 1920s. The publisher, P. F. Volland Co., was well known for their beautiful children's books, greeting cards, games and calendars, as well as for publishing significant authors and writers.

(ca 1860); 3 1/2 x 5 1/2; pp. [2]; card stock printed recto only; a few small scattered spots of foxing; illustrated with engraving of the British Royal Crest; very good.An interesting and quite amusing advertisement piece touting the benefits of the patented Nodder's self-adjusting and ventilated hat. The said benefits are enumerated and listed in order of importance (?) and include "fitting the peculiar configuration of all Heads," "thorough ventilation," "grease-proof," etc.

First edition; 3 1/4 x 5; pp. [13]; illustrated wraps; minor wear and rubbing to spine and edges; illustrated with photographs; very good to near fine condition.An apparently unrecorded booklet describing Carrageen, aka Irish Moss, detailing, in words and photographs, the process of raking the ocean along the New England coast for the moss, drying it, and manufacturing various products. The pamphlet is also an advertisement for the company's Nepto Lotion - made with Carrageen and, apparently, the go-to for surgeons, housewives, "those who drive a car," etc.

Columbus, Ohio: The Thymo Chemical and Mfg. Co., 1899. Softcover. Pink tri-fold card stock, n. d. (ca 1899); 3 x 5; pp. 6; die-cuts to last leaf; a bit of wear and rubbing to fold lines, else bright and clean; name and address of, presumably, a person ordering the product typed; very good.A curious piece of advertisement, the item appears to have been an order form for Thymo Tooth Paste and Thymo Tooth Powder with die-cut slots for putting coins in and mailing it to order toothpaste. The slots are outlined and subtitled, according to the size of available coins (50 cents, nickel, etc.). Also included are descriptions of the products and several letters by physicians and specialists endorsing the use of those miracle items.

(ca 1890); 2 3/4 x 4 1/2; pp. [14]; illustrated stiff wraps; minor age-toning to wraps; illustrated; near fine- condition.An unusual advertising booklet, combining poetry and historical facts, for Emerson Drug Co.'s Bromo-Seltzer (which purportedly cured all headaches, nervous depression, over brain-work, alcoholic excesses, and so on). Several pages left blank with heading "Memorandum." Others contained information on the British, Russian, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and US Armies' numbers of soldiers, guns, horses, etc. Also included were short poems corresponding to the particular army being described, for example: "And Russia is a mighty power, But well disposed to us, We shall indeed deplore the hour It ceases to be thus..." The only copy in the trade.

(ca 1900); 4 x 7; single sheet printed recto only; small chips to corners; a bit of age-toning to margins; good to very good.An advertising leaflet for the Golden Gate Baking Powder, which was produced the J. A. Folger Company also known for their Folger's coffee, containing the statement: "Use 1/4 less of Golden Gate Baking Powder than any other brand and get the same results" as well as various cake and cookie recipes made with the above-mentioned baking powder.

(ca 1905); 5 x 3 1/2; single sheet, light brown card stock illustrated in blue and red; lower right corner with a chip (chipped piece present), else minor wear; very good condition.A fun advertisement puzzle for Bishop's Nut Brown Sodas - a business that appears to have been located in Oxnard, California at the beginning of the 20th century. The recto of the card features a beautiful illustration of a jester and a parrot and the verso contains a table with numbers and letters and directions for guessing one's age with the help of that table.

(ca 1881); 3 1/5 x 5 1/2; pp. [16]; illustrated wraps; a few spots to front wrap; small chip to head of spine; illustrated with steel engravings; overall very good-.An advertisement for the firm of Seth W. Fowle & Sons' patent medicines - Wistar's Balsam of Wild Cherry and Peruvian Syrup. The booklet contains testimonials, descriptions, and a hilarious poem.

First edition; 2 x 4 1/4; single sheet, stiff beige card stock illustrated in black; punch hole for a string to left margin; a bit of wear and creasing; faint glue residue to verso (removed from a scrap book [?]) and a handwritten name overall very good condition.A hilarious advertisement piece for the so called "Unique Comedy Act, Appealing to Both Sexes of All Ages" of the 1930s and 1940s. The verso of the label features the following short poem: "I am out on a hell of a time -- When I get so I can't stand up, Take my purse, wind my watch, Tie this to my button hole, Kick my (ass) and send me home." It features a rebus of a donkey for the word "ass."

(ca 1915); 6 1/2 x 5 1/2; single sheet folded, pp. [4]; glossy cream stock, illustrated with a portrait frontis and a vignette of the Two-headed Eagle Imperial Russian Seal; horizontal crease line; a small nick to edge of crease; very good condition.A beautiful advertising pamphlet for beauty products, developed by a Russian immigrant businesswoman in New York in the early 20th century. According to Selma herself, during a visit to her native Russia in 1900, she has obtained the secret formulae for these highest quality preparations, which are all natural and have no harmful ingredients in them, and has brought them back to the US, manufacturing the products and selling them to "many thousands of highly satisfied patrons." Claiming to take 10 to 20 years off their age, each of them is described in detail and include, Selma's Russian Scalp Tonic, Selma Julieana Face Rouge, Selma's Russian Skin Beautifier, and more.

It also contained recipes for plum pudding, puff cake, lemon tart, and others, and domestic economy advice on “how to shine.†The tangential entertainment pieces included a large woodcut of an androgynous child with the captioned question: “Boy or Girl?†and a racist anecdote about a Georgia negro, illustrated in silhouette.
