An advertisement for Hanford's Balsam of Myrrh in the form of an abc book with each page featuring two letters, an illustration, and short rhymes touting the magical properties of the product, for example: "W is for Wound or Open Sore, That you have tried to heal before; Seek Hanford's Balsam where for sale, Then use after others fail." Hanford's Balsam was introduced in 1846 as a cure-all for external injuries on horses, livestock, and humans.

Twelve die-cuts, seven different designs in all; illustrated card stock; 4 1/2" in diameter; circular, gilt frame; die-cut ladies' figures in various outfits and hats; tabs at the bottom and on verso, to be folded in such a way that the figures would stay up (none folded); very minor wear to a few; near fine or better condition.A fabulous collection of, presumably, advertising pieces (although similar ones by the same company had been printed on verso to be used as bridge tally cards), they all showcased the splendor of Art Deco printing of the 1920s. The publisher, P. F. Volland Co., was well known for their beautiful children's books, greeting cards, games and calendars, as well as for publishing significant authors and writers.

The slots are outlined and subtitled, according to the size of available coins (50 cents, nickel, etc.). Also included are descriptions of the products and several letters by physicians and specialists endorsing the use of those miracle items.

An unusual advertising booklet, combining poetry and historical facts, for Emerson Drug Co.'s Bromo-Seltzer (which purportedly cured all headaches, nervous depression, over brain-work, alcoholic excesses, and so on). Several pages left blank with heading "Memorandum." Others contained information on the British, Russian, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and US Armies' numbers of soldiers, guns, horses, etc. Also included were short poems corresponding to the particular army being described, for example: "And Russia is a mighty power, But well disposed to us, We shall indeed deplore the hour It ceases to be thus..." The only copy in the trade.
