First edition, 5" x 7 1/4"; pp. [12], 11-161, [7]; original limp full calf; embossed title and decorations; gilt top edge and roughly-cut fore-edge of pages; wear mostly along edges of covers; spine slightly rubbed and faded; portrait frontis; engraved vignettes at beginning of chapters; few small pencil marks at outer margin of several pages; number written in upper corner of first free page; good or better condition. Signed/inscribed by author. He founded the Roycroft artisan community - an exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Among his best known and most influential works is 'Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great.' His wife and he perished aboard Lucitania, when the ship was sunk by a German submarine in 1915. In his present work he elaborates on his ideas of business as a fine art.

A fascinating little book, covering many subjects, including 'Structure of the Earth,' 'Use of Animals and Vegetables,' 'Use of the Ocean,' etc. Condition: Good - engraved frontis, original red boards and 1/4 leather spine, gilt title; bookplate and a stamp from Kingston Library (no library pockets or stickers), spine somewhat worn and faded, small piece missing off head of spine; scattered foxing.

Revised edition; original embossed brown cloth over boards; 12mo; pp. i-xxiv, 25-959, [1] publisher's advertisement; 6 chromolithograph color plates, 200 illustrations - full-page and in-line and many woodcut engravings in the text; boards worn and faded; edges of spine and boards rubbed; title page and frontis portrait missing, else text complete; piece missing off upper right corner of preface page and a closed tear; a few penciled-in notes throughout; pages mostly clean. A fascinating early work on the human system, the different organs, diseases and their prevention, and even marriage and "the philosophy of child-making.

First edition, 8vo, pp. viii, [1], 32; illustrated with diagrams and tables; original speckled yellow wraps; an inch-long piece missing from tail of spine resulting in a crease line to lower left corner of cover; a few small creases to corners; some wear along spine edges; pages have some pencil underlining. A fairly uncommon first printing, of which OCLC lists 9 copies in major institutions and libraries. In the preface, the authors mention that "the text is used in this experimental form and the authors will appreciate criticisms and suggestions.
