Once in America, he became caught up in patriotic causes and soon returned to England with a plan to sabotage British dockyards. He even traveled to Paris and met with American diplomat Silas Deane who he informed of his plan. Aitken set several fires that were more nuisances than anything but made British officials nervous. He was caught and hung in front of a crowd of 20,000 spectators.

Description:
Lowell: Nathaniel Dayton, 1846. Hardcover. 160 pp. Allen was deaf since the age of fifteen. In 1832 she went on a trip to the mid-west. She visited Oberlin College and called it a black and white school. She also visited Kirtland and gives very brief remarks on the Mormons. She says in part, "I proceeded to Kirtland, the then location of the Mormons, when I entered their splendid temple and saw their prophet Joe Smith, surrounded by his deluded followers..." The first outsider to write about visiting the Mormons at Kirtland was Nancy Towle in 1831. Elizabeth Allen was probably the first deaf person to visit the Mormons at this location.
