A fun and informative homemade guidebook, this album offers a step-by-step method for female dental assistants when performing oral x-rays, and then developing the film in the dark room. The photographs show two women, sporting horn-rimmed glasses and impressive bee-hive hairdos, posed as assistant and patient. Accompanying each image are brief, straight-forward instructions, which begin by telling the reader to bring in the patient and "put her at ease" because "many people fear the dentist, and it is one of the dental assistant's duty (sp) to relax them.".

1920. Silver prints (168). A dense and dynamic typological survey, this album documents scores of shop signs which lined the bustling streets of Phuket Town, Thailand, in the late 1920s or early 1930s. In the early 1900s, Phuket was one of the world's major exporters of tin, which was mined throughout the island primarily by Chinese laborers. Large-scale tin mining efforts began in the 19th-century, in part because the invention of the tin can sparked a global demand for it. In the early-20th century, under Governor Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahitsaraphakdi, major European mining companies were brought in, and major public infrastructure such as roads and canals was built. Phuket City, the island's capital, therefore became a hub for the miners, laborers, engineers, prospectors, from China, Europe, India, and elsewhere throughout the world. A dense, rich, almost psychedelic series from a singular artist, these one hundred and forty posters represent the thrilling oeuvre of Sister Marie Claire, a Bengaluru-based nun who spent her long career dynamically fusing traditional Christian themes with a vibrant style of Indian art. Exceptionally well-printed, scenes like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the call of Isaiah and the covenant with Abraham are vividly executed in fiery reds, inky blacks and purples. In her depictions of Jacob's ladder, the Pillar of Fire, and Elijah on Mount Horeb, curved figures are shown against undulating flames and clouds from the heavens. Sister Claire was born the second of nine children in an upper-caste Hindu family in Tirupati, a town in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and given the birth-name Meera. 1917. Silver prints (28); numerous typescripts and facsimiles. During World War I, aerial photography was a great contribution to the war effort. Aerial reconnaissance photographs were used to gain intelligence about enemy positions and movements, and to map out the terrain for military planning purposes. Pioneering Photo-Secessionist and famed art photographer, Edward Steichen, played a significant role in the development of aerial photography during World War I. In August of 1917, Steichen was appointed as the chief of the Photographic Section of the American Expeditionary Forces, where he was responsible for organizing and directing a team of photographers to document the war effort. 1977. Silver prints (21). Tuscon, Arizona was the sight of three separate UFO sightings in the early months of 1977, including a February 10 incident involving Lois Stovall and her grandmother, Alice Buckner, who lived next to Lillian Cavett Elementary School. The present photographs document the individuals and locations involved in that story, including the Buckner house, front yard, and the area around the school. On the evening of February 10, 1977 around 7:30 pm, Lois Stovall was sitting on the couch in her grandmother's living room when, according to one of the handwritten captions, "she first saw the light coming across the desert to the left of the school." Lois and her grandmother, Alice Buckner, headed outside to try and get a closer look at the source of the light, which "hovered a few inches above the ground...then rose up over [the] fence and came up [the] neighbor's drive" before settling fifty feet above her grandmother's yard. 1900. Sketch album; watercolor and colored pencil illustrations (57). This lovely book of drawings, completed between 1900 and 1904, depicts indigenous flora in Australia (primarily New South Wales), California, and England. Identified flowers in New South Wales include:Kyalite, hop, pittosporum, quandong, and Kurrajong. California flowers represented include clover, honeysuckle, thimble berry, wild cat ranges, and huckleberry. These California flowers were found in Eureka, Ferndale, Little River and Trinidad. English specimens include wild poppy and yellow iris. Overall, a charming vernacular compendium. Binding splitting, with a few pages loose. Otherwise good condition. Album overall measures 7 x 10 1/2 inches.

1920. Photo album; silver prints (46). A charming 1920s album with production and set photos of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Ruddigore," "The Yeomen of the Guard," "The Pirates of Penzance," Patience," "Iolanthe," "The Gondoliers" and "H.M.S. Pinnafore." There are also a pair of smaller photos showing an outdoor production "Robin Hood." These shows were produced at the Rose Valley Chorus and Orchestra in Rose Valley, PA. The theatre opened its doors in 1907 with "The Mikado" as its inaugural show, and is still around today. About half 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches, the rest smaller ; With manuscript production title and date recto.
