Headcaps neatly repaired and the leather rubbed. Strips torn from the free endpapers and evidence of old damp to the top outer corner from around p. 400. Generally clean and crisp. The text starts on B1. ESTC N473897 with locations at New York Public Library and United States, Naval Academy Nimitz only. Printer's codes indicate that it was issued in parts of which we have Numbers I-CXIX. The title page and preliminaries would presumably have been Number CXX which may never have been issued as the Nimitz copy is similarly defective. The date of 1714 is ascertained by the text ending with the accession of King George I on 1 August, 1714.

Modern quarter calf binding with old marbled boards to match the marbled edges and vellum tipped corners in the style of the older French binding. The old flat, gold tooled spine re-laid. New endpapers of matching handmade paper. Water stain, mostly marginal at the foot of first and last pages, otherwise internally clean and tight. The second French edition of the most important Spanish account of their Central American discoveries, the first French edition having appeared in 1598. A very nice copy.

Publisher's embossed cloth binding showing wear on the corners. Neatly rebacked with the original spine re-laid. New endpapers. The binding and text show the signs of use common to a good cookery book of this age but are carefully restored for further enjoyment.
