Original-Leinenbände mit aufgezogener Illustration. Callots, meist vergessene, Reisebeschreibung erzählt von Ägypten, dem Sudan und Äthiopien. Sein 10bändiges Werk: Der Orient und Europa. Leipzig 1854-1855 ist mir in nur 3 Exemplaren bekannt. F.J. Bieber hat 1923 Callots Beschreibung von Kusch und Habesch zusammengefasst. Die hier vorliegenden 2 Bände enthalten die Bände 5-8 aus dem 10-bändigen Werk, die die Reisebeschreibung nach Ägypten, Sudan und Äthiopien enthalten. Die Auflage im Eigenverlag beträgt hier 100 Exemplare.

Er unternahm 1867–69 eine ausgedehnte Reise nach Mittel- und Nordamerika (Mexiko, Westindien, Texas), danach besuchte er verschieden marokkanische Hafenstädte und drang von Oran aus in die algerische Sahara vor.- Enthält u.a. folgende Kapitel: "Der Nil. Küstenflüsse des Mittelmeeres. Der Kongo. Der Niger. Der Senegal. Der Gambia. Der Ogowe. Der Oranje. Der Tschambesi" etc.

Neuer Leinenband mit aufgezogener Broschur, Nummern-St. verso Titel und Karten, ansonsten ein sauberes Exemplar. Seltene und wichtige Quelle über das Kongogebiet! - Chavanne (1846-1902), österreichischer Geograph und Afrika-Reisender, bereiste 1884-85 im Auftrag des belgischen Kongo-Komites das untere Kongo-Gebiet. Er nahm den Fluss von Banana bis Boma auf und erforschte den Strom bis Vivi. Im August und Sptember 1885 zog er mit Zintgraff auf größtenteils neuer Route von Nakki durch Gebiet der Muschikongo, über San Salvador nach Kizulu. All but a few numbered in negative or on the images and with blind stamps “Missions Evangeliques Reproduction Interdite” on the images, all with manuscript ink captions in French on the mounts. Presentation inscription in French, dated 1887, on the first leaf. Original dark brown album with marocco spine and cloth boards; spine with gilt lettered title “Album”, front board with faded gilt lettered title “Zambèze”; marbled endpapers. Report by the Surgeon of the U.S. Ship “Mohican” which visited Easter Island in December 1886. Next to the substantial report by paymaster William Thomson this is the second authentic account by a participant of the Mohican expedition. Our catalogue contains altogether three accounts of the Mohican visit: the report by Thomson, the present account by Cooke, as well as an early general article, drawing on the results of the Mohican visit, by Walter Hough who was not a participant of the Mohican-expedition. These three reports reflect the increasing interest of the US-public in this small island in the Pacific. At the same time they represent valuable information of a phase of rapid change on Easter Island, its population and culture!
