Gift inscription dated 1868 on front endpaper. Large map is missing. All pages gilt edged, toned with occasional spots here and there.

"A Chronological VIew of the World" was intended by the author to accompany and illustrate Friedrich Strass's "Stream of Time." A Prussian historian and schoolteacher, Strass envisioned time as metaphorical bodies of flowing water. This copy of Haskel's "Chronological" was printed in New York in 1845. It is bound in green cloth over boards. The cover is scuffed with rubbing to top and bottom of the spine and corner tips. Spine is badly sun tanned. Interior pages foxed, heavily at front and back. Binding remains tight. Previous owner's names written in ink on first free fly leaf; another owner's name is written in ink at top of title page.

First Edition with Scribner's A and seal on verso. Ex-library, pocket removed from back inside cover causing some damage. Cover scuffed and stained, corners worn to board. No dust jacket. Binding tight, interior not marked. Library name embossed on title page.

HANDSOME COPY in VERY GOOD condition. This is the biographical history of Oregon in three volumes. Some minor bumping on the corners and top and bottom of spine of each volume. There is green and brown marbeling on text block. Fold-out map of Oregon in Volume I. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting; and the spine is undamaged. There are numerous photographs throughout all three volumes. This is not an ex-library book, but was donated to the Friends of the Eugene, Oregon, Public Library. We are selling the book to help support library programs for children and adults. Thank you.

The book is bound in blue cloth with a vignette of Magellan's ship, the Victoria, stamped in gilt at the center of the front cover. The spine is badly sun faded, and there is minor fading across the top inch of the back cover. There is a small bookplate (blank) at the top left corner of the first paste-down page. Text is otherwise clean with no extraneous writing or marks. "The Fifth Letter" is No. 40 in the first series of publications by the Hakluyt Society between 1847 and 1873. It includes not only the letter from Cortes, dated 1526, but the society's 1868 annual report.

This three-volume set is number 1,151 of 2,000 numbered copies in a special edition. Appears unread. 974 plates and text illustrations; some in color. The Wikipedia article on Henri Vever (1854–1942) writes that the French jeweler was a collector of a broad range of fine art, including prints, paintings, and books of both European and Asian origin. By the 1880s, Vever had become one of the first Europeans to formally collect Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints.

=Illustrated thoughout in black-and-white and in color. Bound in cloth with the spines stamped in black and in a gray-green cloth-covered slipcase. Very minor shelfwear to slipcase.

In this contemporary analysis of the U.S. Civil War, New York State Democrat R. G. Horton sees the Union and President Abraham Lincoln as the villains. "The Southern people who fought so long and so gallantly to roll back the tide of Abolitionism that has engulfed them, will, the writer trusts, find in this volume encouragrement ..." Publishers ads at the back of the book include "anti-abolition tracts" for sale. Head and tail caps worn; corners bent but not broken. Binding solid and pages clean.

Book shows slight shelfwear, including rubbing at bottom of spine; corner tips slightly bumped with rubbing to bottom tips. Color plates remain bright. Dust jacket is in a protective plastic cover.
