Kingfishers and Related Birds by world-renowned ornithologist Joseph M. Forshaw describes 210 species and 512 subspecies. This six-volume masterpiece includes 156 full-page, full-color illustrations by internationally acclaimed natural history artist William T. Cooper. The three parts, including their protective solander boxes, are color coordinated to one of the colors found in the highlighted groups. Part I is blue, Part II is green, and Part III is maroon.
The six volumes in our offer are volumes 1 & 2 (Nos. 514 of 1,000 of Part I); volumes 3 & 4 (Nos. 512 of 1,000 of Part 2), and volumes 5 & 6 Nos. 512 of 1,000 of Part 3). (However, while the title pages of the volumes in Part 3 state that 1,000 were printed, it appears that many fewer were actually sold. This seems a shame since, as one early reviewer noted, "This is the crowning jewel of the series." )

Max and tthe White Phagocytes is a collection of short prose pieces, essays, and stories by Henry Miller, first published in 1938 by the Obelisk Press in Paris. Published while Miller was living as an expatriate in Paris, the collection contains work written around the same time as Tropic of Capricorn.
This copy has a publisher's note on the back of the first title page that states that this is the second volume in the Villa Seurat Series and gives a publication date of September 1938. It is a large octavo softcover book in original decorative wrappers with French flaps. Pages age age tanned but clean with no extraneous writing or marks. Title letters on spine are faded but readable. Cover rubbed at edges and corner tips and at top and bottom of spine. Cover beginning to come loose from spine at top and bottom. This book has sailed through life's storms and needs a safe port. If you want to know more about classic yacht design and construction, this is the book for you. First free fly leaf is taped in with cellophane tape and has a large tear at the bottom left corner. Title page has come free, but is present and complete. Last free fly leaf with ads is torn in half but is complete and taped together. The binding is beginning to separate at the top starting at the title page. Interior pages age tanned but remain legible and are unmarked. The is a stain on the front cover that has lightly discoloreda section of the right corner. Get your tools ready!

This two-volume set is the English language version of Professor Werner Rauh's "Succulent and Xerophytic Plants of Madagascar." This set was published in 1995 and 1998 by Strawberry Press. Rauh (1913-2000)was a professor at the University of Heidelberg and director of the Institute of Plant Systematics and Plant Geography as well as director of the Heidelberger Botanical Gardens, and wrote more than 300 scholarly books and articles. His work on the succulent and xerophytic flora of Madagascar is presented in his two-volume work Succulent and Xerophytic Plants of Madagascar. This two-volume set is in FINE condition. Minor shelf wear. Like new.

This handcome folio is from the third printing in 1979 of the 1975 Golden Anniversary editiion. It remains in Fine condition and appears unread. The Golden Anniversary Edition is a reprint of the original edition from 1928 reproduced in the original size and with illustrations in color.

"Etching, Engraving, and the Other Methods of Printing" provides a comprehensive guide to various printmaking techniques. This copy has been rebound in yellow and tan cloth over boards with brown marbled end papers. It has a limitation statement: "limited to 50 copies, this is No. 8." The cover's corner tips are slightly bumped. Pages are clean with no foxing. All 10 original plates and 4 illustrations are present.

This hardback set includes Volume 1: Single-Engined Fighters and Volume 2: Twin-Engined Fighters, Attack Aircraft and Bombers. Volume 1 has 184 pages, 366 black & white photographs, 28 multi-view illustrations and 17 full color side views. Volume 2 spreads 285 black & whte photographs, 27 multi-view plans, and 16 color side views over 176 pages. Introduction by the late Bill Gunston, internationally respected for his research and books on aviation history.

This handsome two volume set is a first edition from Henry T. Coates & Co. with the date on both the title page and the copyright page. It remains in near fine condition. Some wear to top and bottom of red dust jackets. Red ribbon bookmark in Volume I is detatched but present. The whie book covers with gilt decoration are in near fine condition. Just a beautiful set. Lightly read.
Edmondo De Amicis (1846–1908) was an Italian novelist, journalist, poet, and short-story writer. This two-volume set is an English translation of the thirteenth Italian edition by Maria Hornor Lansdale. There are 31 black and white photos of life in Morocco.

This handsome first edition remains in very good condition. The green cloth of the cover has faded somewhat, but the gilt lettering on the spine remains bright. The spine is a bit cocked. The binding is tight. There is slight rubbing to the cover edges at the top and bottom of the spine. The unclipped dust jacket has small chips at the top of the spine and a tear at the bottom of the spine. The revolutionary drawings of Arthur Harry Church (1865-1937) are considered some of the finest botanical illustrations of the 20th Century. Most of the drawings in this volume are published here for the first time. The large quarto volume has numerous illustrations. and 61 color plates. This copy is in "fine" condition, as is its dust jacket. It appears unread.

This paperback photo album is in very good plus condition. The only flaw is a yellow store price tag stuck firmly to the upper left hand corner of the cover.

Robert Tallant, as the foreword notes, researched Voodoo in New Orleans for several years, and consulted files collected by the Louisiana Writers Project. This hardback copy is a stated 1946 first edition. No dust cover. The book's cover has a few stains with some rubbing of corner tips, which are slightly bumped. Previous owner'sname and address sticker attached to first paste-down page. Interior pages are somewhat age tanned but they are clean without any notes or underlining. This is not an ex-library book. This copy was published in 1864 by Groombridge and Sons, London. The authors are Edward Joseph Lowe, assisted by W. Howard. "Beautiful Leaved Plants" contains 60 colored illustrations, as beautiful today as the day they were printed, as well as black and white illustrations. After more than 160 years, each colored illustration has left a shadow mark on the following or preceding page. The original text block was rebound at some point in blue cloth with red leather corner tips and spine. The gilt title letters on the spine remain bright. The date, however, does not match the Roman numeral numbers on the title page, showing the book as from 1854, not 1864. The binding is beginning to come loose at the frontispiece. Very light foxing throughout.

S. Scott Spencer wrote this handy guide for football referees while he was serving as secretary of the New York Chapter, Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Football Officials. His 200 questions and answers are based on the official football rules of 1932 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. This hardback copy is in fine condition. A small errata slip is tipped into the book after tha introduction. Here is Problem 1: What is the distance from goal line to goal line? Then, as now, 100 yards. The problems get tougher quickly. Inscribed to a former owner on the first free fly leaf. Book still wrapped in original celephane. A small candid snapshot of the author is tucked into the book.

"Hunting with the Bow & Arrow" begins with a discription of the author's close relationship with Ishi, the last member of the Yahi tribe in California. A doctor, teacher and author, Saxton Temple Pope is recognized as the father of modern bow hunting. This copy, from Putnam's ickerbocker Press, is a fourth imression printed in January 1930. No dust jacket. Previous owner's name written in ink on the first paste=down page. There is a small splotch on page 100 than bleeds through to page 104. Book cover tips are slightly bumped; the top and bottom of the spine is slightly rubbed; gilt title on spine has faded; gilt title on cover remains legible but has faded somewhat. Interior pages are clean; spine is straight; binding is tight. 48 black and white illustrations.

This handsome hardback book contains 27 color plates, which remain bright. Binding tight. Pages age tanned with some pages showing minor to serious amounts of foxing. The author, in his preface, explains that he is trying to bridge a gap in "our records of our Indian Avifauna which badly needs filling." And, for sure, pigeons "are birds worthy of interest."

This 1885 reprint from T. B. Peterson and Brothers is rebound (half binding of dark brown leather with light brown cloth). Illustrations supplied in facsimilie. Binding tight. Note in light pencil on first free fly leaf details binding and illustrations. These "bandittis" were criminal gangs that terrorized the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio and the territory of Iowa in the early to mid-19th century. The author, Edward Bonney (1807-1864) led a full life as an adventurer, miller, hotel keeper, city planner, counterfeiter, livery stable keeper, bounty hunter, private detective, postmaster, merchant, soldier. "Banditti of the Prairie" is his best known work and details his undercover effort to expose the killers of Colonel George Davenport.

This 640-page hardback book gives information about a host of geographic places in South Dakota, starting with amphitheatres, badlands, bars, basins ... and ending with walls, water courses, and wells. As the editor notes: "Every given region carries in its place names some record of the people who from time to time have inhabited it." The book is in very good plus condition with a tight spine and binding. There is a moving gift dedication on the first paste-down page to a previous owner; it is signed by 13 colleagues, staff and students. Otherwise, the book is clear of extraneous writing, underlining or marks. The dust jacket is in good condition with small tears and wrinkling across the top edge.

Second American printing of a classic Bunyan text, which was first published in London in 1688. Size: 5.25 by 4.25 by .75 inches; 176 pages. Heavily worn calf binding, interior heavily foxed throughout but appears to be complete. Possibly contemporary owner's signature inside back cover.

This small volume (8 by 5.5 by .75 inch) tells in 199 pages the story of Arizona "from the earliest times known to the people of Europe to 1903. Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine, black lettering on front cover. Shelf wear to top and bottom of cover, corners slightly bumped, color bleached on bottom right corner. Notes in ink and pencil on free front endpage, no other markings in text.

COPY in good condition. Cloth board cover is in good condition except for back map envelope; spine shows signs of wear top and bottom; all pages are intact; pages are in very good condition. All maps intact. The dust jacket is badly tattered.
