Library Hub (formerly COPAC) locates in B.L., Cambridge, Oxford, N.L.S. & T.C.D.. Oxford give the anonymous author as T. D. Landon but on what basis we do not know. T. D. L. had published "Narrative of a Journey through India" in London in 1857, with the pseudonym again in some cases identified as Landon.Describes the voyage from Liverpool to Halifax and journey thereafter through parts of modern Canada (p.9- 90) and then parts of New York and Pennsylvania states in U.S.A.

The work was first published in Dublin in 1772 with a list of subscribers on a 4-page bifolium. Shared type irregularities show that London edition consists in fact of the Dublin printed sheets supplied with a cancel London title page and omitting (in very many copies) the 4-page list of subscribers for the Dublin edition. PARTICULARLY BRIGHT COPY first (English) edition 8vo. xiv, 322pp., 24 photo plates., original deep pink cloth attractively blocked in gilt on front cover and spine, very nice bright copy with a neat first owner's name on end paper. Uncommon, and rare in this condition. A blunt account of his two month sojourn in the London dockland 'underground' during the summer of 1902 where "the starvation and lack of shelter [that he] encountered constituted a chronic condition of misery" [preface].

4 vols. 12mo. xx, 462; [4], 442; [4], 447, [1]; [4]. 448pp., 11 plates (including 8 folding of which 2 are hand-coloured), 6 maps (including 4 folding and 3 hand coloured), nuerous wood-engraved text figures, contemporary Continental (probably German) half dark green morocco, flat spines with broad richly gilt tooled bands at head and foot, pink (paper?) title labels gilt placed just above centrally on the spines, remaining areas of the spines with an all-over decorative lattice pattern in blind, green morocco tips to board corners, green marbled sides, front joint of vol. 4 cracked but tight, neat pencil underlining (removable) in the early sections of vol. 1, spines a little faded, else a nice copy in an attractive and unusual binding.
Vol. 1 inscribed at upper margin of title page "Geo. F. Colley/ Paris/ 1838".
