Description:
1st Canadian Edition. From the d.j.: "James Ladd has succeeded in penetrating beyond the mythology to reveal hitherto little-known aspects of Britain's premier seaborne 'special force'. Like the SAS, the special Boat Squadron packs a punch way out of proportion to its size. Each man is a specialist; but each is trained to the legendary standard that makes this an elite unit. All are qualified 'swimmer-canoeists'--as well as being parachutists--able to infiltrate enemy harbours, marine installations and coastlines held by hostile troops."

Description:
D.J. with a couple of creases; spine slightly discoloured; o/w VG. Illus. match the book's cover. Text of "The Princess Nobody". Edited and with a Foreword by Cary Wilkins. "Lang's tale has been reprinted almost exactly as it was originally published. The main change has been to Americanize the English spellings. A couple of obvious errors have also been fixed. And, in one of the pictures a winged insectappears, which Lang called a Daddy Long Legs. Since Americans use that name for a type of spider, we have called the creature a Dragonfly. One final minor point: Lang used two words to name his magical wonderland--Fairy Land. We have kept the spelling in the text but have adopted its modern spelling, as one word, for the title."

Description:
1st Edition Thus. A story about a young, beautiful woman who was willing to marry the greedy and cruel king for her father's sake. On Blanzeflor's swedding day, King Hendrik clasped a string of pearls around her neck..."You must wear them always." he warned her. "The day I find you without them will be your last." Thus began Blanzeflor's queenly life. Her heart broke at the sight of the suffering throughout the kingdom. She saw her husband fill the prisons with starving people and watched him tax others into poverty. So despite the horrible warning, Queen Blanzeflor gave the pearls away, one by one, as everyone--from the poor old widow with six children to the bishop of the royal church--begged for her help. How Blanzeflor's generosity comes back to help her escape the king's wrath makes an unusual tale, filled with drama, romance, and true caring. Ilse Plume has filled her drawings with traditionsl Swedish motifs to create a beautiful and timeless treasure.

Description:
From the rear cover: "Update on Prince Rupert". Solidly established as the historian of North Coast British Columbia, including Prince Rupert and the Skeena River settlements from earliest pioneering days. Dr. R. G. Large has extended his labor of love with this Volume 2 of Prince Rupert--A Gateway to Alaska and the Pacific. Tightly written, packed with factual material, this work like its predecessor has successfully escaped the hazard of becoming merely a recital of names, dates and statistics. Dr. Large's intense personal interest has covered almost 80 years since tents were first pitched on the beach where a city would have its struggling growth to major seaport status.

Description:
In blank verse, the author, Mr. Leaver, proceeds to make a case that Jasper was the killer in Charles Dickens' EDWIN DROOD. In his FOREWORD, Leaver explains that by placing the confession of John Jasper at the beginning, the mystery of Edwin Drood is solved, thus with its solution the greater mystery of John Jasper in particular, and crime in general, is thrust forward for the imagination to dwell upon. "The second observation is that the book is offered not as a completion to the Dickens' story, but as a series of comments by the major characters." Leaver's "third remark is in anticipation of criticism respecting the medium of expression. No writer could copy Dickens' style. Any other prose style would lack the true attachment. Metrical form involves an elevation of the subject, and whether such elevation has been achieved is a matter for the reader to judge."On the right-hand page of the front endpapers, Mr. Leaver endorses this copy to "Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Green on W. 13th, Vancouver with the… Read More

Description:
On September 3, 1992, a bar named "Sanctuary: The Vampire Sex Bar" opened on Queen Street West, in step with the increasing popularity of vampiric-goth archetypes. Sanctuary originally imposed a gothic dress code to strictly adhere to the gothic fashion aspect of the scene.Sexual activity did not actually occur in the bar. The book, "Tales From Sanctuary: The Vampire Sex Bar" (1997) documented tales and anecdotes from Toronto's alleged "vampire" scene. Copies of this book by Lee seem difficult to find these days, hence the elevatated price.
