This is a printing of two lectures given at the Sorbonne, a historical house in Paris that used to part of the University of Paris. The lectures include: Etablissement de La Monarchie Temperee given in November 1861 and De La Famile Chez les Burgondes given in April 1863. Very good hard cover in modern black cloth binding with gilt title to spine. Minor toning to margins of pages and occasional spots of foxing. Clean overall. The original wraps have a few smudge marks, but are in very good condition overall. Consistent browning to most pages, but text remains bright and clear. The last two volumes have unopened pages. Op Reis was one of his later works, published in 1929, one year before his death. This volume is #148 of a limited edition of 200. Very scarce outside of The Netherlands. It is printed on Japanese paper in the Grotius type of S.H. de Roos. Large octavo (9/5" x 6.75". Grey papers wrappers with title in black to front wrapper and spine, and publisher's logo in red to front wrapper. Wrappers show light sunning on edges and spine. Small closed tear at top of spine. It was printed for Palladium, in an edition of 300 copies, under the direction of J. van Krimpen. Printed in red and black on handmade paper from Haesbeek. ASSOCIATION COPY: From the library of Ary Baggerman (1905-1972) Dutch pen draftsman, illustrator, watercolorist, graphic artist, and painter noted for his still lifes. New South Wales: Benevolent Society of New South Wales, 1963. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. Alfred (Alf) Conlon was an important and controversial figure in Australia during World War II. He was the head of the Australian Directorate of Research and Civil Affairs and was an influential figure in the Pacific region after the war through the Australian School of Pacific Administration, which grew out of the directorate. He also helped to found the National Union of Australian University Students, obtained a medical degree and practiced psychiatry before his untimely death from cardiovasular disease.
