Harvard University, Belknap Press. Cambridge. 1955. 229 pages. First Edition, date on title page. The binding is firm. The black boards are in very good condition with only very slight bumping at corners and top/bottom of spine, visible wear along bottom edges, the title and author in bright gold on spine. The dust jacket is good at best: it is moderately toned over much of it and has been repaired by tape. There are small tears and about a 1-inch piece missing from the front top right corner and it is price-clipped. It is in a clear Mylar protective cover. The interior pages are in very good condition. They are clean and bright. There is no writing or foxing with the exception of a small spot on the inside of the back cover. The book contains several illustrations which are reproductions of figures produced by other artists such as Catesby and Audubon.

There is no noticeable bumping on the edges. There is a faint line on the front of Volume I and three small spots with very mild color loss on Vol. II. The author and title are in bright gilt on the spine of both volumes. The bindings are solid. The tan dust jackets of both volumes are frayed along the edges with a couple of small chips in them. They are sunned/faded in spots, most noticeably on the spines. The jacket of volume II also has a couple of small spots on the front. The interior of both volumes is in very good plus to near fine condition. All pages are clean and bright with no writing. The only blemish detected on the interior is a couple of small spots on the inside of the front cover of Vol II. The books appear to be unread, the page fore-edges are untrimmed, some are unopened.…

The green covers are in good condition, with mild bumping and color loss around the edges. Title and author in gold on spine. The dust jacket is quite worn and frayed, with noticeable loss especially along the top and bottom of the front and spine. The front end paper has 4-5 lines of writing crossed out with black marker along the top portion of the page. Otherwise, the interior pages are generally clean and bright with no writing. The 4 full-page color illustrations of fish by Fairbairn are in excellent condition (arctic grayling, brook trout, smallmouth bass, northern pike). The book also contains numerous black and white illustrations of many fish species.
