Sheet is 30 x 24 cm.; image is 14 x 11 cm. John Sartain (1808-1897) pioneered mezzotint engraving in the United States. He engraved this portrait of Benjamin Carr from a painting by John Clarendon Darley (1808-1863). Undated but probably produced in the 1830s. Number in pencil in lower right-hand corner: 7/882. In Very Good- Condition: light soiling and foxing; a crisp mezzotint image.

The report by the doctor who oversaw the Babies' Ward, Sarah J. McNutt (1839-1930), includes the stories of individual children and their poverty-stricken backgrounds. Includes lists of the officers and managers (all women) with their addresses, as well as contributors to its support. The Bahamas Scholarship Fund was incorporated in New York in 1963 to provide scholarships to students from the Bahamas to study in the United States. The first recipient was Edwood L. Donaldson, who was attending Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He later returned to practice medicine in the Bahamas and served in the legislature. In 1966, the directors of the fund were Richard E. Webb, Bernice Ferguson, Thomas Peterson, the Rev. Bruce P. Williamson, and Eliud John Deleveaux. Charles Chauncey Binney (1855-1913) was a lawyer in Philadelphia and the author of a biography of his grandfather Horace Binney (1780-1875). He also wrote a number of articles about voting in Pennsylvania. In the 1880s a movement began in the United States to change from the traditional public ballot to the Australian or secret ballot. Binney discusses the need for a secret ballot in Pennsylvania, which passed a ballot reform bill in 1891. Scarce. In Very Good- Condition: wrapper is detached and largely separated; light creasing at wrapper edges and minor loss at corners; pages are clean and solid.

Contains 4-page pamphlet with self portrait of the artist on the front, an article about the artist by Daan Hoekstra of Classical Realism Quarterly, and a resume of the artist through 1978. Loose inside this is an article about Balma's fresco at St. Mary's College in Winona, Minn., from Inland Architect, and a leaf with an explanation of Buon fresco. The 7 prints, separated by glassine leaves, are: La Badia, La Muta, Mary Ann Graziano, Anthony J. Adducci, Calzaiolo, La Signora Vaselli, and The Mediatrix (folded). Each are 36 x 28 cm., except the last, which is 108 x 28 cm. Scarce. Portfolio is in Good Condition: front hinge separated from head of spine for 10 cm.; slightly soiled; prints are clean and bright.
