First US edition of the author's boyhood in the West of England and published in the UK under the title Cider with Rosie.
Laid in, is a leaflet in the form of a bookmark of a contemporary review of the book written by the Scottish American academic writer and literary historian Gilbert Highet. It was reprinted from the Book of the Month Club News.
The book shows very little sign of wear. Boards sound with attractive drawing on front board. Previous owner's name in ballpoint pen on fep. No browning or spotting.
DJ has some wear at extremities with a tiny piece missing head of rear flap (not visible). The rear cover is somewhat faded (now off white). DJ indicates Book of the Month Club selection. Now in protective removeable sleeve (see image).

Very scarce UK edition, in one volume by George Gregory MD (1790-1853).
Condition is Good.
Contemporary half calf over marbled boards.
Calf spine has a tear approx 1.5 cm at head and a tear of approx 2 cms at tail. Some wear at corners of boards and at joints.
Binding good but rear hinge with last three leaves weakened. However no leaves are detached, book is not shaken or loose.
Internally there is some light occasional foxing with heavier foxing/browning in early leaves and last few leaves and also pastedowns. Two small pieces missing from top of first blank. There is a signature in ink of a previous owner on title page. Some small notations (indecipherable) by a previous owner in ink on rear pastedown.
All edges marbled.
This is the very scarce UK edition.

Previous owner bookplate on first blank with previous sale price marked in pencil. Name and date (1945) of previous owner in ink on front pastedown.

Lovely book in near Fine condition. Clean cloth bound boards. Internally clean. No markings or inscriptions. A small section of first blank somewhat browned. Else fine.
DJ is not price clipped, complete and without loss. Rear panel a little dust dulled. Now in a protective removable sleeve.
An excellent copy.
