Offsetting to endpapers, very light bumping to spine ends, a near fine copy in a very good dustwrapper with some scuffing to front panel at top edge and fold, and with some chipping to spine ends. First US edition, INSCRIBED BY RENDELL TO HER NEIGHBOURS: 'April 1974 For Pat & Douglas with love from the author, Ruth'. Preceded by the UK edition published the same year. Douglas Brown [1917-2003] was the BBC's first religious affairs correspondent, and held that position until his retirement in 1977. He and his wife Pat were Ruth Rendell's neighbours in the village of Polstead, Suffolk. Much of her work is set in the county, and when made a life peer she chose the title Baroness Rendell of Babebergh, of Aldeburgh, in the County of Suffolk. An excellent association copy of an early Rendell title.

Mr. Howell had clearly sent this copy to Betjeman requesting a signature, and preserved the letter he received in reply. Dated 27 June 1969, and sent from Betjeman's Cloth Fair address in the City, the letter reads: 'Dear Mr. Howell, How very kind of you to write to me. I hope my head won't get turned by all these kind letters I have had. I especially value yours + hope you are happy up there in Islington. One of 200 copies of this fragile book of verse, with a foreword by fellow Titus author and common-law husband, Ludwig Lewisohn. A very well-preserved copy.

First trade edition, preceded by a limited edition of 60 signed copies, LENGTHILY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR: 'Signed for E. Nolan Sargent...whom I do not know, but who seems a decent fellow; at any rate he did enclose return postage, which is what many of my 'admirers' sinfully admit to do. A.E.Coppard Long Wittenham Sep 26 1931'. The inscription is followed by a holograph quotation from Uncle Remus. A nicely personalised example of this collection of short stories, lacking the dustwrapper.

A little light creasing to leading edge, small loss of colour to spine, but a very good copy. First edition. No. 44 of 150 copies SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, of a total edition of 500 copies. A collection of verses written for the 1968 Harvest Festival at Little Missenden. This copy's signature is dated 3 January 1969; other copies with later numbers carry a later date (13 February).

A near fine copy in a complete but worn dustwrapper with some creasing and closed tears, especially to front panel. First edition. Scarce in any sort of dustwrapper -- and a copy which has survived far better than the reputation of its author, who has now been comprehensively forgotten. COPAC's listing of Glyder's work shows him to have been active between 1928 and 1949 (making it likely that this was his last book), and two films were made from his novels: The Compulsory Husband [1930] and The Compulsory Wife [1937]. Apart from that, nothing: Glyder's name does not seem to have troubled the scorers in any of the standard reference works.

These episodes of Floggit's (the apostrophe is missing from the scripts' title pages) are from the first series, which was transmitted between August and November 1956. Transplanting their Workers' Playtime characters to a family-run general store, this unexceptional and now very dated show had a stellar writing team: while providing scripts for this middle-of-the-road radio comedy, Freeman, Junkin and Nation were also working on Idiot's Weekly Price 2d, the first attempt to present Goon Show humour to a television audience. With the arrival of commercial television in the UK in 1955, regulations were put in place to keep any advertising content separate from the programmes themselves. An exception was made for so-called 'shopping guides', US-style promotional shows where, instead of being advertised in commercial breaks, products were integrated into the fabric of a show where their benefits, availability and price were discussed by the cast. An extreme form of product placement, they usually ran for fifteen minutes, and gave the audience the feeling they were flipping through a mail-order catalogue. SOUND ENGINEER'S STUDIO COPY, HEAVILY ANNOTATED FOR USE DURING RECORDING. In the summer of 1952, Calling All Forces became Forces All Star Bill, '...presenting the best of Britain's showbusiness for our Armed Forces serving overseas'. This was the second episode of the new incarnation, which featured a different compere every week. (This week's was Bernard Braden). The show was transmitted on 11 August 1952, and as well as the ever-present Graham Stark and Fred Yule, featured Lizbeth Webb, Lee Lawrence and Freddy Randall among the guest stars. A very early Galton and Simpson script dating from the first year of their career, heavily marked up for use during the recording of the show itself.
