Amsterdam: F. Houttuyn, 1747. Seven engraved plates from Icones Biblicae. Engraved by Johannes (Jan) Luyken after F. Houttuyn. It is unclear which edition these are from, but they are from either the 1729 edition publised by J. Cóvens en C. Mortier, or more likely from the 1747 edition published by Houttuyn. Most of the plates are in excellent condition, but there is a touch of edgewear to a couple. Creasing to one plate. Crease to the fold of each plate. Paris: Chez Ant. Aug. Renouard, 1903. A beautiful copy of this First Edition. Bound in an Arts & Crafts style in 1903 by AR. In full leather with decoration and titles in gilt. The binding is in a good, strong condition. To the front end paper, is a large ink ownership inscription. This shows the owner was one Fanny Crozier. She was of Westhill, in the Isle of Wight, and married to a prominent Justice of the Peace in the county. The books contains a frontis engraving and 39 beautiful engravings. Complete. Text in French. There were a further two supplements issued in 1788. Original green publishers paper covers, with number to spine. (if this is a library number - there are no other library marks). NB. This book is entirely in Italian. The green paper is faded to the spine, and has a little nicking, with a couple of closed tears, and a little loss to the edge of the spine. The boards are still firm though. Internally clean and tidy throughout, with a little foxing / darkening to the pages only. Overall a nice copy of this uncommon first edition. Première édition. Milan: Franco Maria Ricci, 1979. First edition. Publisher's hardback covered in black silk, gilt titles, color illustration glued to the cover. Illustrated slipcase with title on spine. Both book and slipcase are clean and tidy with no significant flaws. Aloys Zötl was an Austrian painter. He was relatively unknown until his work was "re-discovered" by surrealist André Breton who was taken by the surrealist aesthetic he saw present in the images - as he writes: "Lacking any biographical details about the artist, one can only indulge one's fantasies in imagining the reasons which might have induced this workman from Upper Austria, a dyer by profession, to undertake so zealously between 1832 and 1887 the elaboration of the most sumptuous bestiary ever seen." London: The Illustrated London News, 1876. A bound collection of issues of The Illustrated London Almanack. This was published annually by The Illustrated London News from 1845 to 1895. The full title states that this "contains astronomical diagrams of remarkable phenomena, printed in tints, under the superintendence of James Breen. Ferns and Butterflies of the months, printed in colours by Leighton Brothers with descriptive letterpress by Mrs Lankester, fine art engravings, original designs heading the calendar and a variety of useful information." The illustrations show the Victorian obsession with the rural idyll. Half brown leather, with gilt decoration and titles. Brown buckram boards. Boards are a little faded and rubbed, but still attractive. Marbled end papers. Internally in good, if slightly darkened condition. Spine is sun faded and rubbed, with some splitting beginning to top front of spine. Otherwise boards show minimal handling. Internally the book does have some foxing, mainly to edges of the pages. Slight curl to both front free end paper and rear end paper. 271 pages. 265 x 185 mm (10½ x 7¼ inches). This book was issued on the day the new museum building was opened - November 4, 1871 . New York: Pyramid Books, 1976. Three volumes in the "Illustrated Fiction" series published by Pyramid books. All are first editions Softback. Full colour adult graphic novels. Byron Preiss wrote Schlomo Raven Public Detective with art by Tom Sutton. "Smarter than Marlow! Shorter than Spade!" Schlomo is described as being in the footsteps of the Maltese Falcon. Byron Preiss also wrote Starfawn, with illustrations by Stephen Fabian. (An adventure in the Star Trek tradition with a fantastic multinational crew on the Starship Destiny). Red Tide was illustrated by Steranko and is an illustrated Chandler novel. All three are in good clean condition, with just a touch of edgewear / handling. Vol 1 unpaginated but approximately 128 pages. Volume 2 is approximately 128 pages. Volume 3 is 128 numbered pages. 170 by 125mm (6¾ by 5 inches).

Berg en Terblijt: Gallery/Sculpture Garden Giardino, 2009. First edition. Hardback book full of colour and b/w images of the artist's creations, plus some of Jos at work, a biography, and an introduction by his manager. Text in both English and Dutch. Dutch born Jos van Vreeswijk is a self-taught artist who now lives in Belgium. In a good / very good condition, with minimal handling. 164 pages. 340 x 250 mm (13½ x 9¾ inches).

Cambridge: R. Walker & T. James, 1745. Two Volumes, first thus. This is the two volume re-issue of this work by Walker, in 1745. It was longer than the earlier edition (extending to 1234 pages rather than 1109), but it was not issued with the engravings. This copy conforms to ESTC T154531 with pages up to Y4 the same as the earlier issue, those after differing. In this copy, Y4 is not a cancel. Half contemporary leather bindings, with marbled boards (now significantly faded) gilt volume number but no titles to each spine. Leather is a little cracked, but binding is holding well. Vol. 1 has a modern cutting with a portrait of Cromwell pasted to the inside front board. Title page is a little darkened. Rest of the work is in good clean condition, with a few pages a little dirty. To volume II, the rear paste down is covered in pencil page references. The last text page has a repaired tear, with a corner of loss (not affecting text.). (viii) 1-716, 721-1234. pp. 110 by 170mm (4¼ by 6¾ inches).

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1975. Very nice copy of thir first edition with a warm gift inscription from the author to the politician and journalist Woodrow Wyatt. Clean, slightly darkened dust wrapper, now protected with a mylar cover. Clean, slightly rubbed grey boards. Internally clean and tidy. Inscription in red ink to the front end paper, and Wyatt's bookplate to the inside front board. X, 505 pages. 235 by 160mm (9¼ by 6¼ inches). Wyatt was initially a Labour politician and MP from 1945-1970 Afterwards he became a broadcaster and journalist. Over time he moved away from the Labour party, and on becoming friends with Margaret Thatcher, moved significantly to the right. His memoirs were described as "Mischievously indiscreet diaries" (Andrew Neill).

This is # 4 of 10 Arabic numbered deluxe copies signed by Claus and Reinhoud with extra suit, all signed with poems. The leporello etchings are in black and white, all signed, with autograph note 'dit is nummer 4, Reinhoud' on title page of the suite. First edition with 8 signed etchings on Hahnemühle by Reinhoud D'Haese, printed by Imprimerie Viverlot Incorporated. In excellent condition throughout. No significant flaws.
