Amsterdam: E Maaskamp, 1825. Map of the area around the Zuiderzee and in the north of the Netherlands affected by the flooding in February 1825. The flooded areas are colored blue. Part of a series of five maps of the affected areas. This map is based on Maaskamp's map of Les Provinces du Nord found in his Pocket atlas of the Kingdom of the Netherlands published in 1821. There is an additional title printed and the flooded areas are additionally coloured. Overall in very good condition, with some darkening around the folds. The blue indicating the flooded areas is somewhat faded, but still visible. The February flood of 1825, also known in Germany as the Great Hallig Flood (Große Halligflut), was a devastating flood that occurred from 3 to 5 February 1825 on the North Sea coast, in which about 800 people were drowned. Amsterdam: (AJC) Arbeiders-Jeugd-Centrale, 1934. First edition. Record and information book for attendance at the 1934 AJC socialist youth movement camp De Paasheuvel in Vierhouten. It tells attendees what to bring, what to wear, how to act and what to do once they go home again! This is the year that Koos Vorrink, the outgoing chairman of the AJC, gave his farewell speech at the week long camp. The AJC promoted traditional good manners, no alcohol or tobacco, lots of exercise, folk dancing, drama and music. Front cover green woodcut design by Fré Cohen. In good clean condition. 10 pages. 170 x 105 mm (6¾ x 4¼ inches). The AJC (1918 - 1959) was a socialist youth movement.

Paris: Petit Courrier des Enfans, 1841. Two volumes. First edition. Quarter red leather with gilt titles to red boards. A little bumping and rubbing to the edges of the boards. Each volume contains 12 engraved plates - so 24 in total. The wide pages are each divided in 4 columns, and pagination is by column, rather than page. Each volume contains 12 issues, each containing 12 pages and a plate. These are not dated, but have the title to the top of the first (4) pages. So each volume has 144 pages (despite a pagination of 576.) Some darkening / spotted foxing to the pages, but overall in very respectable condition. 250 x 180 mm (9¾ x 7 inches). Deux tomes. Amsterdam, 1986 / 2017. Five black and white digital prints - after Ilford negative 1986. Signed in pen and pencil by the photographer (on reverse side). The 4 photo-diptychs and 1 photo show Haring at work, discussing his work, drawing and surrounded by ghetto blaster, cassette tapes, and spray cans. Printed on matte 300 gms paper. In 1986, New York graffiti artist Keith Haring was invited to exhibit by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He was also asked to spray a velum with his characteristic 'playing men'. This velum has been shown again recently at the Stedelijk Museum. Photo press followed Haring at work, and these images are part of a photo shoot with Chris Reinewald, then journalist for 'Plug' - a cultural youth magazine. In fine condition. 210 x 298 mm (8¼ x 11¾ inches).

London: J. Cary, 1793. Very nice clean condition. There is fractional foxing to the edge of the written page (verso) the map itself is clean and tidy with the merest hint of darkening. A couple of tiny marks not affecting detail. . An engraved map of Kent, hand coloured in outline. The detail from Cary's atlas for Kent is visible and legible to the verso. Framed in a simple pale green mounting board. Protected by acid free plastic. John Cary worked from London as a mapmaker, engraver and publisher, towards the last quarter of the 18th century up to around 1830. His "New and Correct English Atlas", first published around 1776, was a benchmark in British topography. He used Copper plates for all his work, despite steel engraving becoming more common at this stage.

Stillwater:: Oklahoma State University, 1965. Signed dedication by Bryan P. Glass to the front in ink. Illustrated pale green paperback covers, with green cloth spine. Front cover is age toned to the very edges. Copyright 1951, but this is stated as the seventh printing from 1965. Illustrated with over 100 b/w fascinating anatomical drawings. Clean inside. 53 pages. 280 x 215 mm (11 x 8½ inches).

Calcutta: The Baptist Mission Press, 1911. First Edition. Hardback. Colonial British officers and civil servants who lived in India during this period were expected to learn to speak the Indian languages in order to communicate directly with their staff and men. Hindustani was the considered 'lingua franca', spoken as it was over much of the area which, at that time, constituted British India. Higher Standard Hindustani examinations remained, virtually unchanged, until 1947. Binding is tight and square. The paper covering the spine is split at the bottom. Boards are soiled but somewhat stained. The book has definitely been used as there are small / light pencil annotations to some pages. 220 x 135 mm (8¾ x 5¼ inches).

London: Smith, Elder / Chapman & Hall, 1850. Two First editions, bound together in a contemporary full leather binding. All edges gilt. Both by Titmarsh, a pseudonym for Thackeray. The 15 full page illustrations to the Kicklebury's are unsigned, the 8 plates in Rebecca & Rowena are attributed to Richard Doyle. These were two of the 'Christmas books' written by Thackeray. Clean full leather binding. A touch of rubbing. Spine is somewhat dulled. Internally clean, binding is firm but slightly shaken. 88, viii, 102 pages. 185 by 140mm (7¼ by 5½ inches).

Tours: Maison Alfred Mame et fils, 1921. First edition. A very nice copy of this beautifully illustrated story. No rebound in three quarter leather (or possibly blue faux leather). marbled boards. Simple gilt title to the spine. Cream end papers. The original illustrated covers of the softback are bound into the book. A little rubbing and evidence of tape to the edge of the front cover (inside). Title page with facsimile autograph and vignette. 95 pages. Preface by Robert de Flers. Beautiful black and white and colour illustrations by Job throughout. A touch of darkening to the page edges, but overall a clean and tidy copy. This is a scarce children's story written by the Queen of Romania, Marie de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha (1875-1938). 340 by 270mm (13½ by 10¾ inches). . Première édition. Adverts for publisher to the rear board. Red cloth spine. There seemed to be many variants of this popular work. This copy is on stiff card boards (rather than paper) 32 pages, with the title as the verso of page one. Each page is in one or two columns of verse (In German), with an attractive lithographed picture to each page. The lithographing is very high quality, and gives the impression of hand colouring. The boards are a little rubbed, but sound. The pages have darkening to the card stock, particularly to the page edges. KÖLN: Kunstsalon Hermann Abels, 1929. A scarce early catalogue of Kokoschka's work at the gallery of Hermann Abels. Orange soft covers with blue text and design (in the Constructivist style). Title, frontis photograph of Kokoschka from 1921. There are two further full page black and white illustrations of his work, and a map of the gallery. 7 pages of details of his works on offer. This was a significant exhibition, and works in it are referenced by leading auction houses.
