[Paris], 1652. Full Leather. Good binding. Small quarto. Engraved title page and 26 engraved plates, constituting "De l'Utilite de la Physique." Bound in contemporary calf; chipping at the spine ends; corners worn; some desiccation to the covers, nevertheless, binding is solid. Contemporary owner name and date, "1653" on a preliminary blank. Additional owner stamp on the back of the first folded plate. Engravings are remarkably bright. This is the third volume (and complete as such) of a 5 volume work, La Philosophie Expliquee en Tables (1651-1652) in which Leschlache organizes all branches of knowledge and are complete within themselves. An interesting if curious undertaking. Brunet, III, col. 1011.

In contemporary red morocco with decorative gilt on both covers and spine and previous owner name stamped in gilt on the front board. 24 issue, each with one or two engravings that serve as frontispieces, all present. Light rubbing and scuffing to the extremities; a bit of separation starting at the bottom of the rear joint, binding remains solid; contemporary gift inscription in pencil, and a later bookplate; contents with varying degrees of foxing and toning, particularly at the plates and the adjacent leaves; occasional owner pencil bracketing in the margins, but generally clean. Early volumes from a long-running Methodist periodical in a better than usual binding on this mid-century periodical.

Greenfield Center, NY: Greenfield Review Press, 1974. Original Wrappers. Very Good binding. Octavo. 35, [1] pp. First edition. As issued, stapled into stiff, printed wrappers. Sunning to the front cover near the spine; residue from an early price sticker; otherwise, only light shelfwear. A fairly presentable copy of the first collection by this noted mixed-race Native American poet. Silko is probably most recognized for her 1977 novel, Ceremony which among other things, tackled ethnicity and identity and is among the works associated with the movement often referred to as Native America Renaissance. This present copy of Laguna Woman is an uncommon first work by an important voice in American literature.

Washington: Counterpoint, 1996. Soft Cover. Very Good+ binding. Square octavo. [6], 89, [1] pp. Uncorrected bound galleys. Signed by Merwin on the title page. Printed wrappers. Light curling to the corners and fore-edge, but largely a clean, nice copy.

As issued, in printed wrapper with a mounted. Wrappers are a trifle worn and soiled, but the volume presents fairly well. Gift inscription on the title page.

As issued in publisher's black cloth with printed title label on the spine and pictorial label on the front cover. Quite a bright copy with a bit of foxing/dusting to the textblock edges and some offsetting to the endpaper from the dust jacket; also, there is some tape residue on the back endpaper, The dust jacket is fairly nice with some tape repair/reinforcing to the top of the spine; otherwise, it is only lightly shelfworn and because of its pebbled texture, evenly and lightly soiled on the back panel.

As issued, in red, textured cloth; all plates and maps, including the folding map in the rear pocket of Volume I, are present as called for. A reasonably bright copy of a fairly uncommon title to find in this the first edition. Spines are just a bit darkened; only very light rubbing to extremities; some foxing/browning to the textblock edges; but the content are largely free of any foxing; small closed tear and crease to the frontispiece of Volume I. Haynes 7884.

Chicago: University of Chicago, 1968. Hard Cover. Very Good+ binding/Very Good+ dust jacket. 12mo. x, 179 pp. First edition. Signed and inscribed by Pinsky. In publisher's cloth with dust jacket. Quite a nice copy in exceptional condition but for very slightly bumped bottom corners; dust jacket is just a trifle worn at the edges. This copy has been inscribed by D. H. Lawrence scholar, Keith Cushman by Pinsky in 1980 with a subsequent inscription 30 years later, "And again! -- renewed / good wishes -- Robert Pinsky / 11/11/10." A wonderfully inscribed copy of Pinsky's first published work.

A very nice copy with little in the way of notable wear. Profusely illustrated with photographs of a generation in their latter years on the cusp of photographic documentation. Incredible book.

As issued, in paper-over-board binding; textblock is french fold; in publisher's box. An extremely fresh copy with only very slight toning to the perimeter of the covers; small metal folding clasps are broken as usual. A striking frontispiece photograph of the Lee Monument and two photographic plates of the Stonewall Jackson and Confederate Monument, all have since been removed from Richmond's Monument Avenue. Nevins calls this, "An immensely moving essay that honors Southern soldiers and leaders and at the same time shows a broad understanding of the whole war" CWB II, 14. Harwell echoes this sentiment calling it, "A moving tribute by the premier historian of the Confederacy" In Tall Cotton 60. Uncommon to find these in this condition and in the publisher's box.
