Dark blue cloth covered boards show some soiling, as well as light wear at corners, extremities, and back cover. Prior owner's name on the first free endpaper, no other marks to interior. Decorative title on front cover remains bright, while the title on spine is somewhat dulled but still quite legible. Binding is shaken but still solid. This collection of brief immigrant life stories was compiled by Hamilton Holt, an outspoken advocate for reform and immigrant rights, editor and publisher of "The Independent", and a founding member of the NAACP.
