Minor wear to edges and corners and light scuffing on the boards. The text block clean and tightwith gilt edges. Armorial bookplate and a pencil note 'From Beckford Library' on the verso of the front endpaper together with a later 19th century signature. It is accepted that the major part of the editorial work was conducted by Thomas Hood, with contributions by Charles Lamb, some of whose work is included. in the contents.

Lightly rubbed on corners and a small chip from the lettering piece. Early signature on the title and an unobtrusive marginal stain at the head. Random light spotting of the paper in 'Peg'. A very good copy. The two parts of John Bull were first published in 1712 and Peg in 1760 (but without the Key, which appeared later.) ESTC t 220414, with locations at O; E; only. The imprint is spurious, possibly intended to be confused with Mary Cooper.

Basileae apud Hier. Frobenium et Nic. Episcopium, MDXXXVII, 1537.. 1537 4to. 323, [9] p. Many wood engraved plates, some full page. Later vellum over boards, the spine titled in ink. There is a small meniscus of mouse damage on the fore edge of both boards, otherwise the binding is in good condition. The title page has a small paper fault which affects four letters of text, with evidence of a larger fault in the blank margin of the lower corner. The text is generally clean and crisp with occasional early underlinings and marginalia. There is an old water stain visible on the fore edge of leaves in signatures g - i.
