Rebound in red leather with gilt decorations on edges and spine. Gilt armorial college seal on front cover, marbled endpapers and all edges. 30 plates. Some fingerprints and spotting on frontespiece pages but text is in fine condition.
Slight shelf wear on corners of covers and spine. Bookplate on inside front cover with seal of Malvern College and name of "S.R. James, Headmaster." James was headmaster at Malvern from 1897-1914. Malvern is an independent co-ed school in Malvern, Worcestershire, England.

From the Preface: "The American Indian has been written about by hundreds of authors of white blood or possibly by an Indian of mixed blood who has spent the greater part of his life away from a reservation. These are not in a position to write accurately abou the struggles and disappointments of the Indian." This copy is in fine condition with minor shelf wear. This is the second edition of Katharine Berry Judson's collection of the myths and tales of the Indians of the Pacific Northwest — the Klamath, Nez Percé, Tillamook, Modoc, Shastan, Chinook, Flathead, Clatsop, and other tribes—was first published in 1910. Book corner tips slightly rubbed and bent; top and bottom of spine rubbed; upper edges of pages 77 and 79 are tattered, but with no loss of text. "No. 30" stamped on first paste-down page; Christmas gift inscription dated 1913 on first free fly leaf. Binding tight. All 50 historic photographs of individuals, families, and landscapes remain in place.
