The book chronicles the discovery, exploration, and settlement of America's Pacific Northwest, the area that was known in the first half of the nineteenth century as 'Oregon Country'. It tells the story of an expanding America, an America whose history would also include eccentrics, heroes, entrepreneurs and scoundrels.

The dust jacket was torn and has been taped. There is some yellowing to the top 1/8" of the cover. There is a dogear at page 175, but it does not appear to have been read. The inside is perfect.

This is a first English edition of Parisian Chic: A Style Guide, by the French super-model and designer Ines de la Fressange. It was first published in French in 2010 and was a massive best-seller.
It is 240 pages of advice on dressing, make-up, jewelry and shopping. Fressange took the photos; the model in the book is her daughter.
It is a fairly heavy book. Bound-in silk bookmark, thick paper and a flexible plastic cover. This book shows no evidence of being read. It is in mint condition.

This is a first edition of A Passion For Cheese - More than 130 Innovative Ways to Cook With Cheese. It was written in 1997 by the prominent British chef Paul Gayler, a cheese expert and the man who pioneered 'Vegetarian Haute Cuisine'.

This is a high-quality book with beautiful photography. 9" x 10 1/2", 192 pages. It includes lots of extra tips about cheeses, shopping, preparation etc.

Aside from minor storage wear to the edges of the dust jacket, the book is pristine.

This is a first edition of The Peaceable Kingdom, An American Saga, the 1972 novel by the prolific Dutch-American playwright and novelist Jan de Hartog (1914-2002). De Hartog moved to the US in the early 60s and became a Quaker.

This is a first edition copy of The Penguin Century of Australian Writers, an anthology of the best short stories written in the 20th century by 100 Australian authors.
It is 733 pages of short stories, plus a biographical timeline and a publication timeline. No adornment. It also has a biographical timeline and a publication timeline.
As you can see, the cover has some wear, and it has been taped from behind at the top of the spine. The first 5 pages have a crease that you see in the photos. Other than that, the book is in perfect condition. Mint.

Penrod is a collection of comic sketches by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Booth Tarkington that was first published in 1914. The book follows the trials and misadventures of Penrod Schofield, an eleven-year-old boy growing up in the pre-WWI Midwestern US, in a similar vein to Tom Sawyer. Penrod establishes the characters and the relationships between those who go on to appear in two further books, Penrod and Sam (1916) and Penrod Jashber (1929).This book was published by Doubleday Page in 1914; thereafter, it was reprinted by Grosset & Dunlap, and was produced as a 'Thrushwood Book'. This is the first reprint of the first edition. It is illustrated by Gordon Grant.
As you can see, the dust jacket is not in the best of shape—there are a few bits of it missing, which has resulted in fading to 1" of the spine at top. This is a first edition, first printing, of Peony, by the American writer Pearl S Buck (1892-1973) who, in 1938, became the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Upon its publishing, it was simply title 'Peony'. In later editions, it was released as Peony, a Novel of China and as The Bondmaid.
It was published in 1948 and is set in the 1850s in the city of Kaifeng, in the province of Henan, which was historically a center for Chinese Jews.
The novel follows Peony, a Chinese bondmaid of the prominent Jewish family of Ezra ben Israel's, and shows through her eyes how the Jewish community was regarded in Kaifeng at a time when most of the Jews had come to think of themselves as Chinese.
I'll include the dust jacket but it is in two pieces and I doubt that you can repair it.
The book is perfect. It may have been read, but there isn't a mark in it or on it. It's in mint condition.

This is an original watercolor by, I assume, a Peruvian artist. It is signed 'Pacus 85', or 'Paous 85', but I can't find an artist with a similar name.
It's very well-done and of high quality. It is a richly-colored scene of five Peruvian women (identifiable by their headwear and braids) sitting among their wares--large pots and fabric, in front of the village church.

It was originally professionally framed. The frame broke and is gone; the painting is still attached to the original matting.
The painting itself is in perfect condition.

This is a third impression (1968) of Peter Carl Faberge, Goldsmith and Jeweller to the Russian Imperial Court, His Life and Work, written by the English author Henry Charles Bainbridge and first published in 1949.

Bainbridge was Faberge's friend, and manager of the Faberge branch in London. So this book has a lot of personal detail about the great jeweler, and his pieces. There are 17 color plates and 112 black and white, showing an array of his magnificent creations.

167 pages, 8 3/4" x 11 1/2" x 1 1/2".

This is a high-quality book and is a little heavy.

The dust jacket has shelfwear, mainly at the top, where you can also see price tag remnants.

Aside from minor darkening of the paper, the book itself is in perfect condition.

Peveril of the Peak (1823) is the longest novel by Sir Walter Scott. Along with Ivanhoe, Woodstock and Kenilworth, this is one of Scott's English novels, with the main action taking place around 1678.
Julian Peveril, a Cavalier, is in love with Alice Bridgenorth, a Roundhead's daughter, but both he and his father are accused of involvement with the Popish Plot of 1678. Most of the story takes place in Derbyshire, London, and on the Isle of Man. The title refers to Peveril Castle in Castleton, Derbyshire.
This copy is one of the pre-WWI editions published by Thomas Nelson & Sons.
It is navy blue faux leather with brilliant gold lettering on the spine.
There's an attractive signature on the front endpaper. There's creasing to pages 203-211 and a little bit of wear at the back.
Lovely little book though -- 4" x 6", 756 pages.

This is a stated first edition of The Philby Scandal, a chronicle written by three journalists, introduced by John Le Carre, and published in 1968. It tells the story of one of the greatest spy scandals of all time: The Cambridge Five, aka The Cambridge Spy Ring, were five young students who were recruited by the Soviet Union to become spies. Four went on to have successful careers in the British government, one became the chief art historian for the Queen, and all passed vast amounts of information to the Soviets. Three fled to the USSR.
