Center for Investigative Reporting, 1983. Softcover. Good. Thirty page booklet published by the Center for Investigative Reporting in 1983. This saddle-stitched (stapled) publication was compiled by the C.I.R. and is composed of five articles written by the late Angus MacKenzie, an investigative journalist best known for his work researching the CIA's systematic efforts to suppress and censor information. He co-founded the Center for Investigative Reporting. During his career he won or shared over two dozen journalism awards, including the National Magazine Award. He is known for suing the CIA under the freedom of information act (FOIA). He won. This booklet, 8"wx11"h, has lightly yellowed covers, curls up along the stapled spine, has bumped tips and some smudging. Overall it is in nice shape.

Texian Press, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover. Acceptable. Autobiography of Dr. William Edgar Tatum, as told to his daughter, Doris Tatum Green. Published as one of a limited run of 500, by Texian Press in Waco, Texas. This is an EX-LIBRARY book. Has stamps on edges of text block, title page, penciled Dewey decimal number on title page. FFE also has red pen mark. The library pocket on the back free end page has been removed leaving remnants on the page, and more stamps revealed. Front paste down end paper has the remains of an ex-libris sticker that somebody has attempted to remove. Also a small sticker for the store where book was purchased. The tape used to keep the mylar-covered DJ on the book has yellowed and left markings on inside end papers. The mylar on the DJ is very scuffed and scratched and dirty. The DJ itself is dirty, with small rips, and both DJ and mylar are dinged at the tips and at the tops and bottoms of the spine. Edges of spine and spine ends have rubbing and light wear. Some shelf wear to bottom edges of boards. Lower corner tip of front board is dented, the other tips are bumped, with light wearing to cloth. The joint along front spine edge has bubbling to cloth. Small sticker of previous owner name on front pastedown. Pages are clean but for one page with fingerprint smudges on it. Sunned text block edges. Sewn binding is firm. Pages tend to fall open at the signatures. Pages remain firmly intact. Good reading copy. 321 pages.

Commonwealth Press, 1979. Softcover. Good. 9th printing. Biography of Robert Sayers Sheffey. Book has not been read and is in remarkably good condition. Very light bumping to corner tips. Spine is sun-tanned. Covers have light soiling and are faintly yellowed along outer edges. Text block is clean with only a couple areas of thumbmark smudges. On the spine are remnants of the glue from the binding process. On the half title page is a small sticker, much like a post-it note, but firmly attached. Lower corner of text block has thumb marks. Back cover has extremely minor crimping next to spine. Pages are clean and unmarked with little to no yellowing; they are a light manila color. Small remnants of a sticker bearing the name of former owner. First page has erased penciled price markings. Book is in really good shape with faint reading creases along spine. 282 pages.

Romae, 1963. Hardcover. Good. IN LATIN. The collected orations of Caroli Borromaei (aka in English as St. Charles Borromeo), who was first a cardinal of, then the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church in the 1560's. This book has red cloth boards which are faded on the outer edges and on the spine. The boards and spine have dirty spots and liquid stains. Corner tips are bumped, but NONE of the red cloth is worn through. Outer text block is clean, although lightly yellowed on the top of text block. The front and back paste downs are lightly yellowed, with the end pages having a little more yellowing, with darker yellowing in the gutters. The binding is sound, although the book tends to fall open between pages 6 and 7 of the preface. On the front free end page there is a price written in pen. Gilt lettering on front cover and spine has faded somewhat. Top and bottom of spine are bumped.

Has card pocket, date due sticker, with stamps, etc. Board tips are dented, with wearing to spine ends and corner tips. A big X in permanent marker on front board. Pages soiled by dirty fingerprints. An occasional ripped page, and old repairs with now yellowed and fragile cellophane tape. Binding remains firm with no loose pages. Writing on textblock, which is also soiled. Age-toning to pages. 175 pages.

One name written at bottom of front paste down. FFE has another name at top, A. Bowdoin Van Riper* dated 1987. Stamp on rear end page. Very clean pages. Crack in glue between page signatures in the center of the book. Binding remains firm. *Van Riper is now a historian who specializes in depictions of science and technology in popular culture. His publications include Rockets and Missiles: The Life Story of a Technology (2007) and A Biographical Encyclopedia of Scientists and Inventors in American Film and Television (Scarecrow, 2011).
