Description:
From the Preface by the author, and including input from husband Gordon: "To both of us it seems important to set down the events of this small space in time (our childhoods--approximately 1943 to the 1960's), for our children, grandchildren and their children, so that perhaps some day this small link with their past heritage will be interesting and meaningful to them in establishing their roots and identity, recalling through these jottings the way things were for us in an era about very little has been written. While I will endeavor to include excerpts of Gordon's heritage and memories from time to time, this journal will, for the most part, encompass the recollections of this writer."
Author Carol has signed the front endpaper: 'Enjoy the Memories', Carol Schroeder

Description:
2nd printing. From the front flap: "This book is not another child's garden of verse. Sally go round the sun is a new kind of song and games book, a generous collection of sandlot, street-corner, playroom poetry that will delight youngsters and tickle an adult's nostalgia. It presents, for the first time, three hundred singing games, skipping and ball-bouncing rhymes, taunts, teases and silly songs, culled from the innocent vernacular of Canadian children by Edith Fowke, one of Canada's foremost authorities on the country's folklore.
The book is ideal for children's parties: there are simple directions for playing the games; tunes and guitar chords are provided for seventy-nine items; full piano accompaniments are given for twenty-five songs."
Colourful d.j. but with chipping and rubbing of edges.

Description:
From the d.j. front flap: "The Strasburg Manuscript was the oldest surviving manual on painting techniques in the German language, and dated possibly from the fifteenth century. It was destroyed when the Strasburg City Library was burned down in 1875. Fortunately, a copy of it had been made in the 1840's by Sir Charles Eastlake who used some parts of it in his own book. This copy was bequeathed to the National Gallery, London, and hitherto there has been no complete English translation nor systematic study of the document. This want is now filled by the present complete translation which Viola and Rosamund Borradaile have prepared from the National Gallery copy. Thus the valuable source material of this famous treatise will be readily available to students of medieval painting including as it does the early recipes and techniques followed in late medieval times. The translation also includes comments and notes."
NOTE: The text is in German and English. With a Foreword by John Harthan.

Description:
Special Illustrated Edition. "When invited to write a preface for this special edition of Screwtape my mind was carried back to the inexpressibly happy period that I spent as C. Lewis's private secretary. Though Lewis was quite ill at this time, he always, after his housekeeper had cooked the meal, sent her home to be with her husband. It hadn't occurred to me who might be washing the dishes, till, on the evening I moved into his house, I followed him into the kitchen and found him in the scullery up to his arms in soap-suds. He, sensing that I was astounded to discover that the author of The Screwtape Letters also washed dishes, said, laughing, "If ever you tell others what it is like in this house, you must say that not only are the servants soft underfoot but invisible as well."

Description:
From the back cover: "The Sea Was In Their Blood" explores two key questions: who were the men aboard the Miss Ally, and why were they battered and sunk by a storm forecasted days in advance? Through interviews with the crew's families and friends, rescue personnel, and members of the tight-knit fishing communities of Woods Harbour and Cape Sable Island, award-winning journalist Quentin Casey pieces together the tragic sinking--including important case details not previously reported--and weaves in the backstories of the Miss Ally's crew and the lingering effects of their disappearance."

From the back jacket flap: "Great poetry transcends the boundaries of places, time, gender and race. Although there was no intention to be representative, half the poems were written by Americans and half by English, Welsh, Scottish and Canadian poets. There are, too, translations from Middle English, Sanskrit, Russian, and Japanese. And this anthology is modern: a third of the poems were written in the last fifty years and a third were written between 1900 and 1945."

Description:
From the d.j. flap: "Errol Mason has condensed a life's work of hunting, observing and researching sambar and in plain language describes and demystifies sambar ecology and behaviour. This book provides a base for hunters to be able to safely, successfully and humanely hunt and take sambar. It is a testament to Errol's passion for sambar and it is a fitting tribute to a magnificent game animal whose future in this country depends on conservation hunters and hunting associations working with land managers to ensure that sambar populations are managed properly."
This copy INSCRIBED on the front endpaper, thanking the recipient for her (or his) insights and experiences while hunting the mighty sambar in India. "Best Wishes, Your Good Friend, ERROL"
