Description:
1912. Two exuberant watercolour and ink illustrations of women in trousers, plus an ink cartoon of a woman in old- fashioned dress titled "Who said Votes", on three sketchbook pages. Details of the fashions include buttons, elaborate cuffs, lapels, and headgears. Done in ink and watercolour, by art students in 1912. One is titled 'La Parisienne de 1911' signed by Raymonde Jackson and dated 19/3/12, other colour illustration signed Silvie M Briscoe 1912, the third signed with initials only.

Description:
Scotland: Published for The Author, 1807. First edition, Privately Printed in a run of 120 copies only. Folio. 27pp text, with 43 etchings (as called for) with tissue guards. Bound in contemporary full tree calf decorated and ruled in gilt with a large gilt central ellipse, by Scott of Edinburgh. Later restoration to the binding has involved strengthening of corners, extremities, and a full respine with the original spine laid on. The work was done a while ago, and was very professionally executed, leaving the binding strong, solid, and still remarkably handsome. Internally clean, with some gloriously wide margins, a set of ink initials (C.L.S.) to the front pastedown, and a large note pasted to the front flyleaf detailing the origins and provenance of the book:"This volume belonged to Frances, Lady Douglas, sister of the 2nd Duke of Buccleuch, and Wife of Archibald, 1st Lord Douglas (Son of 1st Marquess of Douglas), created Peer 1790, of Douglas House, Petersham. Connecticut: The Warren Press, 1956. A single letterpress printed card dedicated to Bobchen Haas. A previously unpublished portrait of Robert Bartlett Haas, produced by Stein in Paris in 1938, and being the first appearance of the poem "A Village, are you ready yet not yet..." In its original envelope, and accompanied by a small note in green ink:Four is a four is a four is a four in America is a fact is completed completely presently to a completion and all pleasant things to you. Always. Vicomte de P[uissy]" Little can be discovered regarding the accompanying poetic note, but the poem itself was not published in large numbers, and is seldom seen in its original envelope.

China was open and fashion was promoting it; Revlon had a new line of China themed cosmetics also featured in the editorial. Locations include Peking's Tien An Men, Tai Chi at Zheng y ilu, Democracy Wall, the Sacred way to Ming Tombs, Paihai Park, and the Forbidden City, Datong, and Tiayun. 30 x 22cm. 339 pages. 2 words in pen to back cover, else unmarked, in very good condition.
