No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Hollywood: Samuel Goldwyn Company, 1984. Vintage original 41 x 27"" (104 x 69 cm.) poster, USA. John Lurie, Eszter Balint, dir: Jim Jarmusch; Goldwyn. Unfolded, with just a couple of minute nicks in the blank left margin, JUST ABOUT FINE. Jim Jarmusch's first feature film, a landmark, surreal comedy laiden with dead- pan humor. There were two different posters for the movie -- this one, with a scene at a frigid Lake Erie, and another from the film's finale in Pensacola. There are numerous later repros of this poster on the market, but they measure 40 x 27"", and are printed only in black, whereas this poster is printed in black and brown.

Paris: Imprimerie S. A. Courbet, 1950. Poster featuring the famous 'Normandie' liner. This was produced (circa 1950) in response to the advancing popularity of airlines for transcontinental travel. The image of the ship emphasizes stability, safety, comfort, style and luxury. A beautiful ocean liner as indicated by the enormous proportions of the ship. Featuring the French national colours, and the liner's huge, imposing bow dominates this striking image. 1000 x 610 mm (39¼ x 24 inches). The poster is signed in the plate on the lower right. Paul Colin (1892 - 1985) was one of France's greatest poster artists. Famous for his 1925 poster for the Revue Nègre, which helped launch the career of Josephine Baker (who also became his mistress). Los Angeles: Ruhl Samples, 1961. Flyer. 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Fine.. A fine copy of this 1961 flyer advertising a "Symposium on Freedom" presented by Ruhl Samples on June 24, 1961 at Hollywood High School, and featuring the eminent Austrian economist, Dr. Ludwig von Mises, who planned to speak on "Planned Chaos," and all for the incredible general admission price of one dollar. Mises (1881-1973) fled Europe in 1940 as a result of the German advance, emigrating to the United States where his scholarship was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation and William Volker Fund. Mises would become a visiting professor at New York University from 1945 until his retirement in 1969, and was among the founding members of the Mont Pelerin Society. Mises was a leading scholar within the Austrian School of economics and a leading light for generations of libertarian scholars. THE LEARNING TREE was the first film directed by an African American and financed by a major Hollywood studio, Warner Brothers. Writer-director Gordon Parks adapted his autobiographical novel about a black teenager growing up in Kansas in the 1920s. The film was one of the first twenty-five movies selected in 1989 for preservation as part of the United States National Film Registry.

New York: New World Records, 1977. Pop artist Robert Indiana's vivid serigraph poster for the 1977 New World Records release of The Mother of Us All, Virgil Thomson's 1947 opera about Susan B. Anthony, with a libretto by Gertrude Stein: "The right to sleep is given to no woman." Indiana had long been an active admirer of The Mother of Us All, designing sets for several stage productions, including the Santa Fe Opera's 1976 bicentennial production, whose recording is advertised here. The typography features Indiana's signature tipped O in MOTHER, a design element that recalls his iconic LOVE sculpture and stamp. A really attractive promotional poster, whose minor flaws would be mitigated by proper framing. Promotional poster, measuring 36 x 24 inches, screenprinted in red, yellow, black, white, and purple. Three corners creased, several short closed tears to bottom edge.

Finland: Trinty Production, 1950. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. An original and extremely rare Finnish A2 one-sheet film poster for the Documentary Film "Savage Africa" a.k.a. "Congolaise" from 1950. Commissioned by the French Government originally to make a record of the native tribes in French Equatorial Africa, it was controversially edited to present as an exhibition of female nudity and gorilla hunting. As such, possibly one of the very first Blaxploitation movies ever. The film was screened for the first time in Finland in November 1950 and there were no further theatrical releases following its initial run. The poster is an offset print made by Kartapalvelu Oy of Finland, dated 1950 and with the artist's (printed) signature at the right about midway. Measures 23.5" x 16" approx. Pinholes to each of the corners, some minor creasing at the edges in places but overall in outstanding condition, as a cinema-used item it has to be Near Mint. A superb example… Read More

Finland: Warner Bros, 1953. No Binding. Fine. An extremely rare Finnish "tour",(possible "insert") poster for the Alfred Hitchcock movie STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. The film was first screened in Finland on the 7th March in 1952. It was re-released in 1962 and had a further screening in 1984 in Helsinki. You are looking at a "tour" poster issued following that initial release of 1952. The poster has a printed date of 1953 - it is most unusual for Finnish movie posters to have a printed date on them. At the bottom there is a blank margin where you might normally expect printed text concerning times, dates, location and ticket price headings for hand-completion in respect of regional/local screenings. The dimensions of this poster are also non-standard. You can reasonably expect a normal Finnish "tour-poster" to conform to approx 24" x 13" but in this case the poster measures 27" x 13.25" - more akin to the Italian locandina.
