Frindle by Andrew Clements
Frindle is a 1996 children's novel written by American author Andrew Clements and illustrated by Brian Selznick. Frindle is Clements's first novel. All his previous works had been picture books. The book has received more than 35 awards and honors, including the Christopher Award, the Georgia Children's Book Award, the Sasquatch Children's Book Award, the Massachusetts Children's Book Award, the Rhode Island Children's Book Award, and the Year 2000 Young Hoosier Book Award.
Of all Nick's ideas, the frindle is his most successful. It's a pen, or what used to be called a pen. Soon, much of the nation is crazy about frindles--except for Mrs. Granger, Nick's teacher, who, although she doesn't realize it, was the inspiration for the idea.
