About This Item

np: (G. W. Bertron), 1897. Expanded Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 8vo. Pp. xi, 556. Frontis. scenic painting. Illustrated with a large color fold-out route map tipped in to the title page, a smaller fold-out US Survey map, black & white photo reproductions, engravings and woodcuts. Tan publisher's cloth, titles stamped in gilt with stamped color illustrations on the cover and spine, decorated endpapers, marbled edges. Owner ink initials on the front pastedown, covers and leaves else crisp, square and bright in a tight binding, color fold-out map with a single half-inch closed tear. This edition includes the supplementary Chapter XIII "Advent of Winter." A very well preserved copy of a broad and deep account of early Klondike mining, the land and the life. Several editions were published by various publishers in short order, presumably to meet voracious demand from prospective prospectors. Smith, in Pacific Northwest Americana, cites six publishers, with the Chicago edition published 1897, the others "c.1897". Wickersham is just as vague.

An exemplary copy, notably well preserved. Protected in a removable clear archival sleeve. See SMITH, 4092; see SOLIDAY I, 38; see WICKERSHAM, 3927.
